HR24 acting up, but only on two channels

I wasn't aware you tried a different dish, too. Brings me back to the box or cabling. Another thought, what software version do you have? My HR24-500 is running 0xb08 and I haven't had the issues you have had.

Same software version here. Keep in mind though that even though all HR24s may LOOK the same, that doesn't mean they are. Several manufacturers involved over several years, and no doubt variations in the chipsets -- so it is completely plausible that some very minor issue in the MPEG stream could cause issues with certain machines. Based on years of troubleshooting problems related to MPEG encoding/decoding, this seems the most likely.

Since you seem to be determined to defend your misguided advice, you should really pay attention. I also have an HR24-500, so it IS isolated to that exact model. I think you should just drop this. I know you were trying to help, but not having an HR24 of any variation, you should have looked away. If you go to the original post, the man who started it is very knowledgeable and was mainly asking for others to confirm or deny this exact behavior, which you could not. If you reply, I will list the multitude of reasons why it could not possibly be the hard drive.

HAVING SAID THAT, THE PROBLEM IS GONE THIS MORNING. THE OTHERS WHO HAVE IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONFIRM THIS.
THEY OBVIOUSLY FIXED IT.
or maybe all or our hard drives miraculously fixed themselves overnight.
If you Bother to read the signature you would see that I have 3 HR24's, 2 of which are -500s.
Exactly what experience do you have?

Exactly what experience do you have?

I have had D* since about 1991. I have installed everything myself including the dishes and been through most of the available equipment over the years. I have also installed systems for other people and troubleshot and fixed dozens of problems. I am a director at a computer firm and oversee the networking department including diagnosing and solving 100's if not 1000's of problems with computers and networking for 37 years. I know what the behavior of a bad hard drive is.

I had the same problem as the as the original poster on my HR24-500's. I haven't had a reoccurrence of the pixelation on the affected channels since the problem was fixed early last week.

Was it a one time thing or reoccurring?

No reoccurrence here. Appears to have been an oddity in transmission, which was fixed. How else to explain all units having problems clearing up simultaneously?

True, although it doesn't explain why not all units were affected.

True, although it doesn't explain why not all units were affected.
Also true. The answer to that would likely require a deep journey inside the machines, comparing chips, manufacturer of chips, firmware in the chips, etc. Such an exercise is beyond my expertise to be sure, so I'm just glad that it appears to be moot at this time.

Much respect to everyone who posts here. I KNOW everyone is trying to help.
I see no indication that it wasn't happening for everyone with that model. One helpful poster here finally tried his HR24-500 but the problem had been fixed by that time. Another very prominent poster says he did not have the problem, but maybe he was mistaken since I find it hard to believe that the original post asked if anyone else had the problem and while he has an HR24-500 he must have forgotten at that time to let us all know. It would have been very helpful information at that time and was the main question that was being asked. I am sure it was just an oversight.

I had no intention of posting on this site again, but unfortunately, the problem has returned. I just noticed it about 9AM EST. To clarify, we watch 285 all the time and it was fine since the fix 2 weeks ago. I am not sure when the last time we had 285 on before this morning, but I would say for sure it was OK on Fri (7/14).
Same 5 channels. 276, 277, 285, 286, and 346. I did not check all of my other channels, but I checked many of them and the ones I checked are fine.
I have no suggestions as to what the problem could be because that would be saying someone else here is wrong.

My question at this point, is IF YOU HAVE AN HR24-500, CAN YOU PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM OR NOT. The OR NOT part is very important. I would hope that anyone who wants to add to this discussion has an HR24-500 as that is (and always was) the focus of this thread. I would also hope that they would tell us if they are having OR NOT HAVING the problem.

Just checked those channels and I am seeing some pixelation. The signal strength for the transponder that carries those channels is good, so it doesn't appear to be a signal strength issue. My HR44 isn't showing the same issue. Anyone else?

Same here -- problem has returned on all the above mentioned channels on (HR24-500).

Ok, yes I do have an HR24-500.

Channels 276,277, 285,286 and 346 are all on the same sat/transponder. The only ones.
My initial guess on this was that the transponder (TP12 at 103CB) was having issues that only affected the HR24-500. Maybe only some HR24-500s, because I don't see this issue (2.55pm central time)

Correct -- it appears to only affect some HR24-500s. I am visiting my brother right now and he has one -- no problems on his HR24.

Problem gone again. Monday morning again.
My humble opinion.
The problem affects SOME HR24-500 (some chip or some other minor difference in units)
An attempt is being made to make some kind of change in the broadcast stream or something else that is outside of the users equipment and setup.
The change is causing this issue. Enough calls come in over the weekend and then on Monday morning they revert back to the stable version. Two weeks of coding changes, "now it will work". They put it in place again. Calls again. Revert back to the old version again.

This is complete speculation on my part. I have no evidence whatsoever that this is true.

I am officially going to ignore this problem from now on. We can watch the SD version of channel 285 if and when it comes up again. It's the ID Channel and the only one of the 5 we actually watch. HD graphics aren't really an necessity for this channel.

Thanks to videojanitor for starting the post and special thanks to Chip for his latest post.

My HR44/500 is showing similar intermittent signal digitalization episodes and also on my bedroom tv utilizing a mini rcvr
