I'm with Dish and very satisfied yet curious only because it's probably a pipedream that they ever get Root Sports Southwest now renamed AT&T Sports.

1. I need several local subchannels such as ME-TV, Antenna TV, Decades & H&I. Is their any adapter similar to Dish's?

2. I bought an EHD that I use with Dish for DVR capability. Would this work with Directv?

Thanks.

The AM21 is an ota tuner that only receives stations in a database so it may not have those channels in it. The external hard drive must have an esata connection to work.

Using the external drive replaces the internal, not in addition to, something to keep in mind. Directv's execution of sub channels via the AM21 is poor and hasn't been updated in many years. At this point I would not recommend Directv if those subchannels are important to you unless you are willing to watch live via your TVs tuner.

There is a database file you could compare to your market to see what channels would be in the AM21 here: (OTA tab)

If it isn't on that list the AM21 will not tune it at all (not just have no guide data, literally not tune it).

Thanks to all. It's a shame Directv doesn't make it easier to get subchannels cause in this case, it's costing them a customer. No ME-TV for Houston. I stay with Dish and do without the Rockets & Astros.

I would just get either a TiVo Roamio, TiVo Roamio OTA, or TiVo Bolt for OTA viewing and recording myself. They come in 500 GB and 1 TB models. The only reason I keep my AM21 is to see what's on my non-"moved" primary important channels, and I don't even bother with the extra zip codes.

I'm hearing from a fairly reliable source that even the STB's that are working with the AM21 might see them also stop working in the not too distance future.

Wouldn't surprise me. Thank goodness I have my TiVo Bolt.

Well, it would be down right STUPID for them to shut off the OTA info ... whats a sub to do for OTA channels, you already have the OTA and the AM21's worked great for what they were made for ... integrating the OTA into the D* guide.

I really don't want to have to buy 4 TIVO units to replace the AM21's and still not be integrated into the D* guide.
