How many RF Coaxial cables are used on the current GENIE 4K DVR?

Greetings everyone:

When I last had Directv installed in 2009 which a HD DVR which is the HR23-700 receiver, it required dual coaxial cables. For the latest Directv receivers that can dp 4K, what is the latest and greatest receiver model(s) as I remember reading about one a month or so ago but not sure if it ever got released, does it still require dual coaxial cables? Thanks!

With the newer swm setups, only one cable from the dish and one to each receiver/dvr. The newest Genie (dvr) is the HS17, but there are several drawbacks to it for me. You can only use clients with it, no other dvrs or regular receivers, and you can't use the AM21 ota tuner module with it. The other newest Genie is the HR54, which will do 4k if you have a 4k client or an rvu enabled 4k television.

The new recvrs use a different LNB (SWM, single wire multiswitch) requiring only 1 coax to the recvr.
Typically a coax line from the LNB to a Power Insertor then to the recvr.
If you have more than one recvr, there will be a D* splitter in the system that will feed to the other recvrs.

Many thanks everyone, the R in HR probably means Receiver but what does the S actually stand for? And what is a rvu enabled 4K television since I have a LG 65EF9500 OLED. My previous Directv setup no longer has service since November 2012. If I order new service, will they change to using the newer LNB and replace the wire or will they just use the existing wire and only one of the two cables. Thanks!

They will replace the cable if it's not up to specs and give you the right lnb. the tv should be rvu ready. That means you don't need a separate box to get Directv on it.

It's a Dual RG-6 3Ghz cable so it should be up to spec, just that only one wire can be connected. Doesn't seem like the 2015 LG OLED's are RVU ready so seems like I won't be able to get 4K.

If you get an HR54 with a 61k client and a reverse band lnb you will be all set.

I think it's;

H = "HD" (for "High Definition" of course). Or possibly "Headless" for the HS17

R = "Recorder" meaning a DVR.

S = "Server" since the HS17 is a headless server which does not have any local A/V outputs.

Also to add to this, the new (when and if it comes out) HS17, will work with CLIENTS only and no other recvrs will work with the system.

Personally I think this is a terrible idea and they may lose subs or not have the number of upgrades because people won't want to have to get rid of all the other boxes.

If existing boxes won't work along with the HS17, I won't be upgrading .... hopefully they will address this potential issue.

In limited basis.

I'm curious, if I go into my account and look to ADD recvr, is it listed as something available ?
Interesting, I went to my account to look and see what recvrs were available to me to add ....
Many were listed, everything from the H24 up to the current 4k stuff. Even the H44 was listed, why anyone with DVRs already would want a H44 is beyond me.
Nothing about a HS17 as of yet.

It's not available on my account, probably because it's not in national release yet.
