Hi, first post here. i'm so frustrated with dish right now after what i've had to go through with them over the last 2 days so i'm just doing this on my own. i called tech but after teaching them that it is indeed possible to transfer settings and what menu to go to in order to do it, they basically told me they cant do it.

so, when i go into the diag and tools menu to back up to the remote i instantly get a message saying " the backup could not be completed. please ensure the dish receiver and remote control are in close proximity to each other and are not disturbed during the backup."

remote is about 4" from the receiver so that shouldn't be a problem. if i try to restore on my new receiver it goes through the process but at the end says that it could not be completed. last thing, i went back to my timers on the old receiver and theyre not there any more for some reason. i'm hoping everything is on the remote but not sure how to check.

any advice?

thank you

If you have both receivers, power up the original receiver and pair your remote with it. Do a remote backup. Now, unplug that receiver and power up the new receiver. Pair the same remote with the new receiver. Now do a Remote Restore. If it doesn't work and your new receiver is a Hopper 3 and it was just installed, give the H3 about 3 days to settle in. Then try the Restore again.

Shouldn't you unpair the remote from the original receiver after you perform the remote backup? That is what I did when when I upgraded to Hopper 3s. I unpaired all my remotes from all my HWSs before the DVRs swap over.

Yes, while I was going through the steps in my head, I failed to get all of them down on the page... :)

thats the problem. when i go to back up to remote it gives me the error message. at this point it doesnt even show my timers in the original hopper anymore. not sure why that is because i didn't delete anything. i'm just hoping they are already backed up on the remote and i just have to give the new receiver some time. right now its still going through the restore process when i try to transfer from the remote but at the very end gives me an error.

Here is what I did to get my settings to transfer over.
I had a Hopper with Sling and a Super Joey. I'm still pissed that they screwed up a perfectly good receiver with the ill conceived and buggy new UI but that's another story.
1. I backed up my settings to the remote 40.0 on both the HWS and the Super Joey with its remote.
2. The Hopper 3 and Joey 2 were installed I gave it about 6 hours to do its thing then later that night I unpaired the remote 52.0 first as many have suggested in these forums.
3. I learned in the remote 40.0 from the HWS and I tried to do a restore settings from the 40 remote to the Hopper 3, I got a message that it couldn't restore to this receiver after 3 more tires I gave up for the night thinking the next day I would have to manually enter all 125 timers. Pissed? Yes I was.
4. I unpaird the 40.0 remote just incase the Hopper 3 tried to write a new backup to the remote overnight and destroy my setting saved in the remote.
5. I woke up the next morning and decided to try the transfer again before I started manually entering all the timers again. The first attempt actually got farther that the previous day before the message said it couldn't transfer. I tried it a second time and it seemed to take with a message coming up saying "resetting" or something similar.
6. I checked and no timers or settings seemed to change or update. I checked again in about 5 minutes and the timers showed up but no scheduled recordings so I gave it about 10 more minutes and the scheduled recordings based on the timers now showed up. Happy? Yes I was.
7. I then did a restore to the Joey 2 and all worked as it should.
8. Moral of the story, it might take a few days before you can successfully do the transfer.
