Amazon Fire Stick question

Same here.

I got my Fire TV stick last night and it installed w/o issue, other than getting the dang Alexa voice remote batteries installed. That back cover is very hard to get off.

The Fire TV Stick is about 10-20X faster than my Roku SE, so I am happy. I haven't tried DishAnywhere as yet.

Do they have HDMI? The Fire Stick generally prefers more power than the built-in USB slots on most TVs offer anyway, so not having USB isn't that big of a deal.

Exactly what I was wondering. I don't have any smart TVs and only used a USB port one time to reflash my Westinghouse.

By the way, I accidentally fell asleep with my Fire TV Stick playing, and woke up at around midnight to turn it off. I thought I read that these things run really hot. But after that abuse, it was still only barely warm. :thumbup

Amazon Fire Stick uses an HDMI port, not USB!!

Just installed one on my 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma TV - no usb ports but it works fine on the HDMI port and is much faster than the Joey it replaced, even faster than Dish Anywherre on my phone or laptop.

Remote takes a little learning to master - very much like the Roku remote.

I do wish that Dish Anywhere would omit channels that I have locked out in the DA guide, there are a whole crap load of channels I don't need to see and it makes the guide very clumsy.

Getting H3 + Joey 2.0 installed Saturday, replacing 2 HWS and one Joey 1.0 - bill goes down $9!!

Hmmm- now I must do a rethink about HDMI. Not sure TVs have more than one HDMI. Any chance it would work thru an HDMI port on an AVR?

The Fire Stick power is supplied via a USB interface. Most TVs' USB ports do not supply enough current to make the Fire Stick happy, so you have to use the included power adapter instead.

Love the Firestick and I have them on two different tvs that I rarely use. Saving the $14.00 a month in fees is a big savings to me. I only wish that DISH would allow more than one tuner to be used for streaming shows via the internet. I have 16 tuners on my hopper3, so I have plenty of tuners left over to accomplish that if they would allow it.

I think but could’ve wrong that you have 4 tuners on Hopper 3 and each tuner can receive 4 streams, thus the 16 shows that can be recorded. Similar and expanded from the method used by HWS to record 4 channels for PTAT. Possibly Dish Anywhere live streaming ties into a tuner and can’t separate out the live stream from the other channels so two or more simultaneous streams would restrict a whole lotta Hopper tuners.

Back to the original question... I have a Fire TV stick and the Dish Anywhere app is great. Easy to use and snappy. The best part of an otherwise mediocre streaming device.

If I understand correctly, I think the 1 tuner limitation is because Dish doesn’t want to give up Joey fees. 1 hopper and 3 Joeys and 1 tv anywhere is more expensive than 1 hopper and 4 tv anywhere streams. I think it’s pure economics.. not a lack of technology.

And another reason to not use the USB on the tv for power.. at least with my TVs, once the tv is shut off, the power is cut. The fireTV has to reboot every time you turn the tv on. It also prevents the fireTV from updating.

What is the power adapter that comes with it used for, USB or HDMI connection?
