Obviously, most of the FAH processing is done on the GPUs. Also in favor is that the FAH client probably doesn't include much (if any) code that would be tripped up by task privilege issues. I suspect that the applications that will suffer the most will be the ones that bang the CPU directly (ie Microsoft software).

Gaming will be forever and NVIDIA (all caps like DISH and DIRECTV) doesn't want AMD to gain any gamer market share simply because their cards are available to gamers and NVIDIA's aren't. If the balance shifts, the software houses will quickly follow and AMD will certainly fan the fire.
I'm usually really good about applying patches in my environment, but I leave my Folders alone as that's all they do. No browsing, maybe a little printer queue serving (yay CUPS!) so we can print from iOS, but mostly 99.999% Folding...

That's precisely the concern I was addressing in post 4600.
Because the lion's share of your processing happens in the GPUs, what's going on in the CPU is of vanishingly small consequence. There may be a measurable hit, but it shouldn't be anywhere near the 6% figure. I'd imagine that the results uploads (one of the steps where privileges come into play) happens asynchronously (as a separate and independent process that isn't going to stall FAH processing).
Even for those not using significant GPU power, the impact probably won't be all that important as the grinding typically doesn't require elevated privileges other than memory allocations.
Either way, the mitigation is NOT going to impact you if you don't do a Windows update. Perhaps not obviously, this is NOT an option for users of Windows 10.
And this is one reason why I'm glad I made the decision years ago to switch to Ubuntu for my Folding rigs.
I get your point, harshness, but I guess I was wondering about the CPU client. Since the lion's share of Work Units are getting processed by the GPUs (a couple of hours per WU versus a day or so with the CPU) a slow down would not impact most users, at least not much.
The answer is in my post. Absent running afoul of operations that require high privileges (getting at low-level OS resources), there's not much impact.And this is one reason why I'm glad I made the decision years ago to switch to Ubuntu for my Folding rigs.

How would you know that used card was used by a miner? Assuming he’s not listing several for sale at the same time.
You wouldn't. If you are talking about the point I was trying to make in my post I think you would have to be weary of all used GPU if the crypto market crashes and used GPUs start to flood the market. I personally don't buy any used PC parts but I'm sure there will be some very tempting prices that might make it worth it to lots of people if mining goes bad.
It doesn't seem all that long ago that our Team had passed 1,000,000,000 Points after all those years. That gives me time to find the Dr. Evil meme again...
