Has Dish Network been better at channel disputes lately?

I'm pissed at DirecTV for something that I won't bore you guys with, plus their DVRs suck, so maybe I'll go back to Dish as soon as I find a way to pay my termination fee or maybe just wait until my contract ends. Anyways, the reason I left Dish for DirecTV was for the fact of Dish had a bad reputation with channel disputes, plus I wanted to experiment with something different. I know that Dish doesn't carry SV locals, but most of the SV locals in my "moved" market are the same anyway. I know in the SV market of one, I could watch The Big Band Theory reruns in 5.1 and not 2.0 like the other has, but I can deal with that. I also remember you guys hear in the Dish forums telling me that Dish has improved their HD quality, so that's cool. (BTW, is their HD now on par with DirecTV's?) I'd miss Fox News Go access, but I'm sure Dish would get that someday and I could just use Dish Anywhere for the time being. I also love the fact that Dish has way more channels than DirecTV (with the exception of local channels), and the fact that the Hopper 3 has 16 tuners, and that the current OTA dongle has two (of which I'll use with the addition of my 1 TB TiVo Bolt). So with the Hopper 3 (16 tuners), the current OTA dongle (2 tuners), and my TiVo Bolt (4 tuners); that's 22 tuners!! With all that in mind, I am really considering switching. But the thing I'd dread when having Dish as I stated earlier is the darn channel disputes, are they still a problem guys?

I think both satcos will have more disputes with locals down the road. The Networks appear to be squeezing affiliates for more money on retransmission. I think that is killing the golden goose.

Fair enough, but not a big deal since I have an antenna. The big one I’m wondering are about the cable/satellite channels. I’m sorry if my mentioning the difference in locals between the two in my previous post confused you.

There haven't been any major disputes or outages in quite a while but now that AT&T owns the Turner channels and HBO anything is possible. :(

I wasn't really mad at Dish back in 04, when I switched from Dish to Directv. Our reception with Dish was Great. Our Bill from Dish not so great. We switched before Dish had the Hoppers, and before Directv had the Genies. There were a few channels that Directv had, that Dish didn't and vice versa. Then not to long after switching, Local Channels came to Dish, but not Directv. We had to wait a year, I am thinking to switch back to Dish. Now, it is a 2 year commitment with both. We did switch back to Dish, and there were moments when I thought about switching back to Directv, but when I told Dish CSRs that I was thinking of going back to Directv, they come up with a great offer for me to stay. I am still with them and I am happy with the Hopper 3, and hopefully, I can keep my Locals instead of doing them OTA.

I’m really decided on switching but I checked and as of now and my termination fee with DirecTV would be $320. And I also found out that Dish doesn’t do buyouts. I don’t make much money so I’ll have to wait. Hopefully I can get a better job soon so I can.

Dish offered to buy out most of my contract and I was about to switch but it dawned on me that Disney XD is not in HD on Dish. That was too much of a dealbreaker. I'll stick with DirecTV.

We finally terminated DirecTV at our house. The only thing I really hated about DirecTV was the 2 year contracts and price after incentives ended. My wife and I use the Pay-as-you-go approach, no contracts, shut it down for a month or 2 if the money is tight, switch plans to the Flex when football season is over, ect. If I did that with DirecTV it would reset the 2 year contract counter every time. Also its portable for home or camping with my setup. I use one Wally for my main unit, and one ViP211k for my secondary unit as it has the superior OTA module built into it. Disney XD was a channel I only watched when Spy Kids came on it, so the SD version does not bother me, but its not that bad either if your saving some bucks. I find with my Winegard Pathway X2 and receiver setup that the picture quality is excellent, if you gave OTA HD channels a 10 for picture quality, then DirecTV would be about an 9 with Dish a 8.75, so very close. When camping time comes, it takes me all of 15 min to box up the receivers, dish, and stand and load it into the car.

If you have a high speed internet connection..you can get a roku with the Disney app and watch all their channels in HD

Disney charges for both their SD and HD channels, and require carriage of SD to get HD. It’s a dumb system.
Somehow DirecTV got around that - they only have Longhorn Network in HD, no SD channel. So either they are paying for both and choosing to only have the HD version, or Disney did change.
