Yankees games?

As I recall, Dish wanted to carry Yes. The folks at Yes wanted their channel to be broadcast over the entire Dish population at the base level. That way Yes could get paid for every subscriber that Dish had and it had to be at the base level. Dish wanted to put Yes in the Sports tier so that subs who cared would pay for that privilege, just like Pac 12, and a host of others, is set up today. Yes wouldn't bend so Dish didn't either.

I agreed with Dish's decision to drop the Yes channel. The Yankees are a regional team that only people who live in (or near) New York are interested in. Why should everyone have to pay $5 for a niche channel that they are not interested in and will never watch.

I remember than many years ago, when the Yes network started, Dish DID carry it. After about a year, when it was time to sign the new contract, the Yes network raised the price by a lot. Dish decided that it was not worth charging all customers more money so that some people could watch the Yankees.

Dish offered to carry the channel 'a la carte' and give it to just the people that wanted it, but Yes network said no. They wanted it to be in one of Dish's regular packages that everybody can receive. Dish said no, and subsequently dropped the Yes network.

Dish does carry the Yes channel on their Sling TV service.

(I guess Scott and I were typing a response at the same time).

I don't think Dish ever carried YES as part of their own lineup. Perhaps you are thinking of when it was on EI.

There are Yankee fans all over the country. They consistently have one of the best road attendance numbers.

I would still say the percentage of non-yankees fans outnumbers that of Yankees fans. That statement goes for fans of all MLB teams. If YES charged for all Dish subs, I'd be willing to bet that more Dish subs would be angry having to pay for YES than those who would be content with having the channel.

That may be the conclusion that Charlie came to.

Like I said, they have one of the best road attendance numbers, so there are many Yankee fans around the country.
Yes they do, but to charge all subs across the country the cost isn't a sound business decision, considering each team's territory and the fact that regardless of how much FOX and ESPN want us to believe that all of America loves the Yankees, more people nationwide aren't Yankees fans than are Yankees fans. Not all Americans are MLB fans, and not all MLB fans are Yankees fans, therefore it's bad business to charge outside the Yankees home market $5.00 per sub for YES, when viewers outside the market can't even watch prime product (Yankees Games). That $5.00 per sub was in the Yankees and Nets home market. That's my point.

After the initial subscriber loss due to the loss of the Yankees, this is really a non issue.

If you want your Yankees, you don’t get Dish, you get Directv.

Getting YES Network right now is not going to help Dish. The subscribers have already left and gone to cable and Directv.

Same thing as NOT having Sunday Ticket.
