Hello everyone. I recently purchased the antiquated DirectTV AM21 to coincide with the HR44. I live in the Baltimore/Washington area so I can receive from both markets. Since the AM21 has skyrocketed in price (200 + dollars) I thought my best option would be to purchase a used one from EBAY. I am now starting to wonder if my quest for a bargain was a failure.

The OTA guide is stuck with California channels. I have spent the past several weeks troubleshooting and attempting numerous reboots with this unit but to no avail. The reboot I performed (which I discovered on another forum) was unplug and then plug in the unit twice which didn't work. I have also restarted the HR44 and during the restart process unplugged and plugged in the USB for the AM21. This has caused me a ton of frustration because I would like to utilize the AM21 OTA since it is integrated with the HR44 guide.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions? The manual that came with the unit is useless as it does not provide anything insightful pertaining to this issue. Is there a way of clearing the unit and doing a fresh reboot? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

IIRC, entering a new zip code will erase the oldest one in the guide. Try doing that for both the Baltimore and Washington zip codes.

Thank you Raoul. I attempted the troubleshooting you suggested (numerous times) and it hasn't worked. So far I have used half the zip codes for Baltimore and DC without luck. For some strange reason it is still reverting back to the Los Angeles listing for television.

You did the Reset Settings tab I'm guessing.

will they even exchange an am21?

i thought they were no longer supporting them.

I thought Directv ran out of them at least a year ago. For a while they were shipping AM22s, which is the same model different name, but once those were gone that's it. The customer owns them so Directv doesn't get any back when people leave, so if you want a replacement you'll need to go to eBay or something.

It’s worth a try.

I used to call Dish and tell them my 8VSB HDTV adaptor for the model 5000 was bad.

They would advance exchange me a replacement and I would turn around and sell it for $400 on eBay.

Then I would pay Dish $50 for an unreturned replacement.

Got away with that Atleast a dozen times

Ha ha ha

So you are admitting in an open forum that you have committed fraud?

I’m sure they are trolling these forums.

Besides, I paid for the un-returned items.

I can’t help it if Dish charged me $50 for an unreturned item and the eBay price was $400

What you did I’m pretty sure is illegal. I am “moved”, but if “moving” ever becomes illegal (unlikely) I wouldn’t do it anymore.

Moving isn't illegal, it's against the terms of service in your contract. What Claude has admitted to probably is illegal as in fraud.

You didn’t read what I said. I said IF IT BECAME illegal. I didn’t say it was. I simply was pointing out a what-if situation. Pay attention to the word “if” next time.
