I still have a Slingbox 500

In my elder years I've gone for simplicity. At one point in time I had a dual bus 4 channel switcher, one bus feeding the main TV the other the secondary TVs with a Boxee Box for this, an Apple TV for that, all 4 channels occupied. Had/have a Harmony remote to make sure everything switches to the right input on TV, switchers, devices . . . Had 2, 2 tuner Directv DVRs stacked on each other. Then came the Gene, how can you get better than the Gene? 4 tuners (or was it 5?) in one box. I left DTV shortly after ATT took over and started running it into the ground. It's ridiculous to pay $10 a month for HD. When it first came out, yes. Now? I guess I should have been glad they didn't charge extra for color. If you called and bitched they would give you a "courtesy" $10 credit for a year but you had to call in every year to renew. That went away with ATT. Then there's the Pac 12 debacle. Don't get me started. Track paid my way through college. There's very little track on TV, Pac 12 net actually has a few track meets and living in Pac 12 territory there are a few football games of interest also.

Sooo I bid DTV adieu just before the H3 came out so I had a H2 for 2 years. Just upgraded to the H3 this summer. Everything in one box, Netfixs, Amazon, Home Media Player, Sling Box 16 tuners (H2 really only had 3, 1 for the 4 locals and 2 for Sat channels. Had lots of scheduling conflicts). So bye bye to the complicated system. :)

Now DISH is charging extra for locals. I know marketing is saying they are just splitting out the costs of locals so we can see what they are up against. BS, why didn't my programing package go down $12 when they added $12 for locals? I'm now hopping (commercial skip) on CBS and FOX and non prime time programing via the PLEX DVR using OTA tuners via H3's Home Media Player. It works fairly well but it gets confused once in awhile which is why I need a good OTA tuner in the H3 for backup and there are still a few bugs to work out. Then I can tell DISH what to do with their locals. :)

Received the AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter and it works. Performed a scan test in a Hopper 3 between it and the old DISH Dual-Tuner OTA Adapter. The AirTV channel scans are all over the place. Signal strength for both adapters was 100% for all the channels except one and it was 80%. OTA antenna is mounted in the attic, amplified, and split 3-ways. TV stations are located approximately 23 miles from St Louis. The AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter is a little cooler to the touch. Went in to DISH Anywhere in my laptop and I see both Hopper 3s but did not try it out.

Attached is the scan results and temperature of the adapters. Will test the Newest Model Dish Dual OTA Adapter Tuner when I get one and post the results.

Getting "The requested attachment sound not be found" on the OTA Signal Test. What do you mean by The AirTV channel scans are all over the place?
The attachment is there in PDF format. I did three OTA scans with the AirTV adapter and two scans were the same. You can see that in the attachment. I am going to keep re-scanning till I pick up more channels.

There you go! Look how much money I just saved SatelliteGuys members.

To be honest I was 99% sure it would work as I have been using one on my AirTV and on my Hopper 3 for about 9 months now. I have been VERY happy with the performance when compared to the old Dual Tuner dongle.

So now stop paying $49 - $69 for these things from Ebay.... and just order yours from AirTV for $29. :D

Thanks for being members of SatelliteGuys. :D

Am I missing something here? You've had it on your AirTV for months and didn't try it on the H3? Or you did?
I am hearing rumblings that the $29 one I posted yesterday on the AirTV site is the same adapter and works with the Hopper 3. But I haven't tried it myself. Anyone else want to blow $29 and see if it works? :D

It seems like charlesrshell says the AirTV adapter is no better than the old dual tuner adapter. Although maybe he has an ideal reception environment (all 100%) and the difference will make itself apparent in my case, where I really do have ss all over.

OK, I'll spring for $30 and see for myself. Edited to add: ordered off AirTV link Scott provided.

I am hoping it performs better. I have been getting a lot of signal lost on one of my Hopper 3s.

Huh? Dish is the only provider that allows you to drop locals, which would reduce your programming package by $12. Is that not a $12 lower package?

They may have a run on these :) I ordered one. If it runs cooler maybe it gets better reception. Like Charlesrshell, I've been having some reception problems with a channel that shows up as strong in the OTA menu (96) and none of the many other tuners I have are having problems especially on that channel. So it's got to be the tuner. For $30 I'll take a look see. Thanks for taking one for the team. I'll report my results when I have them.

It used to be part of the package and was part of their advertising, "our packages include locals and HD free for life". Then they decided to split out the locals so now you have a charge for the package (Top 200 in my case) along with $12 for locals. Package price didn't go down when the locals were split out. My plan is to drop locals.

Well as luck would have it - I have this forum.

I’m currently overseas and my dual tuner on my hopper with sling just crapped out.

Wife has confirmed and she’s not happy. Had to add dish locals as a stop gap.

Also - my single tuner on the media room hopper has some sort of glitch where only live viewing via dish anywhere and the fire tv app shows artifacts.

So I just ordered (2) two dual tuners from airtv. There may well be a run on the product.

I’ll be sure to update after I install them.
