HBO/Cinemax Takedown

The way I see it, ultimately HBO wants a guaranteed payday. They want the same payment every month no matter if they have 5 subscribers or 4 million.

So lets say the number is 4 million, if only 3.5 million are subscribing DISH will still pay HBO for 4 million subscribers.
But Scott I'll bet it's a floor with a fixed payment until that floor is reached BUT I would also bet if the floor were reached HBO would demand more.

I think HBO is shooting themselves in the foot. While some people will switch to Direct or some other means to get HBO I think the longer people go without it more and more of them will decide they like having a lower bill and there was not a lot worth watching on it anyway and just cancel it when it does come back as they can live without it.

I doubt if AT&T is worrying about it. They win if people go out and buy HBO GO and they also win if people drop Dish and get DTV, Dtv Go, or Uverse instead. They give HBO/Cinemax free for three months for all new customers, which is also a benefit. Contrary to what you read here, Dish isn't better than DirecTV. It is about a tie at best. I think DTV has better sports and programming, but it is close. DTV will haggle with you all day if you try to cancel, and they gave me $300 as a new tv/internet customer. I think this is a death match for the two companies and AT&T has the edge. Dish doesn't even have an Internet service or wireless cellphone to leverage against Dish.

My point is, don't hold your breath for this to be settled soon .

Yeah but how many do they get back from streaming and keep the whole $15

Or get HBO WHEN THR CUSTOMER DUMPS DISH SND SWITCHES (sorry for caps)

One thing I do not understand, if AT&T demands a certain amount of a subscriber base, then they sure do not get that with people subscribing to HBO via streaming. They get the sub one at a time for $14.99. This is just to squeeze Dish out of getting HBO. Well, HBO will lose subs as everyone will not be moving over to Direct.

Depending on what you want. Dish has more of the diginets and other channels I want Direct does not have, including the Super Stations. I would never go with Direct.

I totally agree. Everyone does not have high speed or they are not interested in streaming the service. I have friends that had HBO in the everything pack, and they are not interested in switching to Direct, so they do without HBO. They have high speed, but it is not an interest to them streaming the channel.

Over 680 posts in this thread so far and not one person has expressed the desire to hold their breath until this is settled. On the contrary, most people are just sighing.

That's because, at least for me, I don't think it will get settled and quite frankly I don't care if it ever does. Dish has taken care of me in the past and I have a loyalty to them and losing HBO changes nothing for me.

Untrue. I said that I was doing just fine without HBO/Cinemax (because of the other movie channels I have) and am easily willing to sit back for 3-4 months (or longer now) and see how this turns out...

I get the feeling that most are like me. Only the non-movie offerings from HBO can make them attractive and many thought they were worth $10, but not $15 since, with streaming, you can spend your $15 there.

I will probably buy (somewhere) when GoT or Westworld comes back. And then drop them immediately again.

Yep. That's my plan as well (for Westworld).

Dish Movie Pack/Epix replaced HBO for our family. Running the Bond collection this month, too. Don't miss HBO at all.
EPIX had what was probably the best series I have seen this year. It's called Get Shorty and it's very much in the Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul vein. VERY adult (nudity, violence etc.) but also very funny with clever writing. Stars Ray Romano, Chris O'Dowd and Sean Bridgers (with cameos by Alan Arkin, Peter Bogdanovich and Heather Graham).

Dish On Demand has it and it is highly recommended. (again Adults only)

I really enjoyed that show, surprised there hasn't been more fanfare about it. Definitely ranks as a top series imo.

So after posting the above, I Googled "Get Shorty" to see if had been renewed for a 3rd season.

What I found was that Season One was picked up by Netflix, so most everyone can see it now. I remember when I was the only person I knew watching Breaking Bad and it wasn't until it was put up at Netflix that other family members caught up to me.

Here's a link to an article with the news about Netflix and it includes a little Youtube sample from the show. A very apropos snippet that catches the flavor of the show.

After E* removed the $10 HBO deal, I already went & called Comcast & they gave it to me for FREE for 3 months. I love now being able to watch it on my Tivo with QuickPlay, since the majority of shows I watch on HBO are the talk/weekly specials & I can now watch them in 1/3 LESS time than before. I'll probably leave it on after the 3 months is up, since Comcast charges $15 as well, so no savings by going to streaming direct to HBO...& you still get the same on-demand access thru Comcast.

Agreed

HBO gets a subscriber regardless at the end.
