AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

I don't believe there are many places in the US where the DTV sats are viewable and the Dish sats aren't.

true, but some of us have tried both and prefer the content on directv.
i guess if i had no other choice i would have to go back to dish.

Have you considered ViaSat? They have a 150mbps capable satellite now

We had Satellite Internet for one year.. Worst internet year of our lives. It was horrible horrible horrible. and in our area, we only qualify for 12gb per month. The cell service internet works and is MUCH better than satellite, the problem lies in the data CAPs that both SATELLITE and CELL impose which makes TV streaming impossible.

I agree with all of the above posts. Internet, these days, is getting to be more and more as important as any other utility. Kids need it for school. It's much harder to run a business without it and people are demanding more on demand information on weather, news, etc.

comfortably_numb the company that I get fiber through, their smallest package is 25MB/s for 29.99. I promise that if they knocked on every door in your town or any other rural town, 99.9% of the people would sign up ASAP. I have a friend who lives in Finland. I know, much smaller than the US, but just about every where has Government supplied high speed internet, according to him.

I know, Socialism! Ugh! lol

Is your cell service through Verizon, by any chance? They now have an unlimited data hotspot plan on the prepaid side

Post me a link. There is usually small print. I have not heard of TRUE unlimited hotspots let alone unlimited without tethering. There is a cell phone on the second floor tethered to a laptop which shares the internet to everyone in the house. I usually have to reboot the darn thing every day. It is a no streaming household and a no online gaming household. That's the only way we can stay below the data cap in which case our internet slows to uselessness.

It seems to be a truly unlimited hotspot plan with full 1080p video streaming. I am thinking of trying it out myself as I have a Verizon tower in close proximity. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page: Prepaid Cell Phones & No Contract Plans | Verizon Wireless

They should really mandate that all of America have Unlimited Highspeed Internet.

Remember the grants to telco's to provide "Highspeed" Internet service to rural areas? One of the problems is defining highspeed, the telcos would lobby for as low a speed as possible to make it so that DSL met the definition at 3Mbs where the groups representing the users would lobby for much higher speeds in the range of 20-25Mbs. Guess who won? That's right the ones with the money. So 3Mbps met the definition of highspeed.

Scroll down to "Tablets & Jetpack Plans" on the link below. The $65/mo with auto pay plan is subject to deprioritization on congested towers, but only for the period of the congestion. My AT&T unlimited plan is also subject to deprioritization on busy towers, but it has never interfered with our streaming.

Hehehe, yea, i know... But, i think its crazy when i hear about people getting fiber, and the only wired connection i can get is dial-up! 56kbps

Can you even access most web sites with dial up?
