Just purchased a new house and had Dish come out to install a new dish. I have a H3 and I am on the western arc.
What I noticed is the LNB on my new dish looks different as compared to the LNB on the dish at my old house.
Both set ups are for the H3 and both utilize a hybrid western arc setup. How can I determine which hybrid LNB is the newer version ?
To me it looks like the LNB at my new house is older (weather worn and the 3 white plastic caps that cover each receiver has what is best described as a protruding ring around the base of the cap ).

It's very possible the tech used a remanufactured lnb at the new house. We've been starting to see them come in here recently also, but we install on the eastern arc mostly. That "protruding ring" you're talking about, is definitely normal on ALL hybrid lnb's. If your old one didn't have that, then you must have had a hybrid 42 switch installed to convert the signal for the h3.

Checked out the installation at my old house and I don't see a hybrid 42 switch anywhere. Is it still possible that there are two different versions of the western arc hybrid lnb ?

Here are some links to pictures.
The lnb at my old house looks like this, scroll down. Dish Network Hybrid LNBF for Hopper and Wally Systems
The lnb at my new house looks like this Dish Network Hybrid DPH LNB 1000.2 Wa110 119 & 129 Western | eBay As you can see this one has the protruding rings around the base of each of the three plastic lnb covers. Also both of my houses have a hybrid solo hub installed.
So I was wanting to know which one of these hybrid western arc lnb's is the latest version of a Dish western arc hybrid lnb?

No, a dpp lnb is not compatible with the hopper 3. If you have a hub, and a h3, then there's definitely a hybrid lnb on the dish.

Edit: I misspoke in my first response. I believe the western arc hybrid lnb's don't ALL have that ring around each "eye," like the eastern arc version does. I've only installed a handful of the western arcs, compared to several hundred of the eastern.

Probably neither are. They're most likely different manufacturers. It's like backing structures and masts. Some are shiny smooth metal, some are a rough, more matted finish.

If you want to know the easiest way to determine of an LNB is Hybrid or not, the Hybrids just say DISH in red letters on the front. The DPP's either say DIsh HD or just Dish in black letters

Just wondering why you are so concerned on which one is the latest? I would think the early ones would be better as they usually figure out ways to make things cheaper/lower quality over time.:biggrin

No real reason other than the "new" lnb" at the new house looks old and weather beaten. The "old" lnb at the old house looks to be in better shape.

Yes I do have access to the old house and I was thinking of swapping the lnb's but I just wanted to figure out which lnb was of the newer variety.

It looked you were more concerned with the appearance in your previous posts... ;)
Well I was kinda thinking that also. But the tech came out today and finished the pole mount of my Dish and all is well as I am getting higher signal strengths as compared to my old installation. BTW the Dish tech. that did my install is by far and away the most professional tech. that I have ever had come to my house. Makes me think Dish is moving in the right direction.
