What is Locast

IMO, the more people that use spoofing to get a channel outside the authorized DMA the more likely it is that the content owners (AKA networks and stations) will pursue legal action against LoCast.

This isn't an issue unique to Locast. The exact same spoofing method works with two of the networks' own local channel live streaming services - CBS All Access and Fox.com, to be exact. I have read that it works with the local channels on YouTube TV as well.

How are the broadcasters getting their retransmission fees?

Exactly! Hence my question about how it is different than Aero. Perhaps as noted, there isn't a fee for the service.

Some of my local stations do stream their news broadcasts, and when they go to commercial breaks, I get either a notice saying the news will be back after a short pause, or a digital stream specific commercial or the same commercial as broadcast. I suspect that advertising rates are tied to this new way of delivering the signal.

Eventually, much like Dish's "Soon" all the local stations will stream the whole broadcast.

Also they are not going the aereo went they are a non for profit organization. I want to see this company add alot more cities or dmas and also add subchannels too

Why Allen? It is already available to you as you live in the Chicago DMA.

When did Locast start running an ad for donations before you can watch? It runs one every time I switch channels. After reading the article posted in this thread, I think they will run out of money long before the nets bother to sue.

It is quite funny. "Tired of paying for tv? Then use our completely free app. It runs on donations, so if you don't donate, we'll have to close down." So, if I just pay for satellite, cable, or streaming, I will pay more, but get more. Got it.
