Exactly. I don't log in and spoof all the time. It was a one time thing.

It was for testing and informational purposes only.

Yes, but the issue with Aero was the retransmission of local channel tv without the expressed (and compensated) permission of the local station.
Perhaps if they do not charge, the local stations are willing to allow it?

I’d love to use it when San Diego comes online.

This isn't an issue unique to Locast. The exact same spoofing method works with two of the networks' own local channel live streaming services - CBS All Access and Fox.com, to be exact. I have read that it works with the local channels on YouTube TV as well.

How are the broadcasters getting their retransmission fees?

If the networks and stations pursue legal action against Locast due to the way they determine the user's location, they would have to pursue legal action against CBS All Access, Fox, and YouTube TV too, since they all use the same method.

Exactly! Hence my question about how it is different than Aero. Perhaps as noted, there isn't a fee for the service.

Some of my local stations do stream their news broadcasts, and when they go to commercial breaks, I get either a notice saying the news will be back after a short pause, or a digital stream specific commercial or the same commercial as broadcast. I suspect that advertising rates are tied to this new way of delivering the signal.

Eventually, much like Dish's "Soon" all the local stations will stream the whole broadcast.

Why Allen? It is already available to you as you live in the Chicago DMA.
