fox sports dispute

We are a small town of about 700 homes. About 25% have Dish. This past Saturday on Nextdoor there were many posts looking for the Texas Tech football game. This was probably the 1st time most of these homes realized they lost their RSNs. Today I saw many Directv trucks in the town. I bet Dish lost many of my neighbors. Dish is messing with football in Texas . That is not very smart.

I’ve been bit by the FSN bug from Dish also. I was a 15 year Dish subscriber when it happened the first time. Went to Direct TV for 2 years, hated it and came back. I had recently re-upped after talking to them specifically about FSN and if there were any potential issues on the horizon.. I was told of course “we don’t know”. My termination fee now is over $200. I am missing my Twins but more importantly for me (I guess I’m a masochist) I need my Timberwolves when the season starts.

A few questions:

1. If I lower my programming to a bare minimum ….does that potentially lower my buyout?

2. If I wanted to get the external antenna installed ……will that work even without Dish?

1. The buyout would be the same but your monthly expense would drop.

2. The external antenna would work without dish provided your TV display has an ATSC TV tuner.

Too bad other providers deals weren't up at this same time with RSNs besides only Altitude.
How can Dish offer NHL Center Ice/NBA package, if these games are unlikely to be in HD with all the missing RSNs.
I'm guessing after one provider reaches a deal with Altitude, that the other two will strike a deal, hopefully also leads the rest of RSNs returning soon.

That is fine, until Direct (AT&T) loses channels. I just heard that Direct may lose Disney soon. Disney wants more money and Direct does not want to pay the rates. Well, Dish has only two choices, drop the channels involved, or pay the high rates and raise the price to the consumer. Every time there is a rate hike, Dish loses subs. So this is a no win situation. I guess if we had true ale carte then the subscriber could buy any channel available for the going rate. But I doubt that is going to happen, as the programmers do not sell their product that way. The only way for some is to stream a service that has the channels you want. If a service drops a channel you want, then since there are no fees or contracts, you can jump from one streaming service or another. They also have a free period to try them out.

The only way the channel owners would ever agree to a full ala carte model is for them to have a financial motivation to do so. The only motivator would be for more providers to cut their existing model at the knees by saying no to the existing subsidized welfare model of having everyone pay for a channel that only a fraction of viewers want.

Even the streaming services have mostly bundles and very little ala carte. Until providers and customers stand up against this broken bundling model, the status quo will continue.

If you have a hopper, you can buy a usb adapter from dish that would allow you to integrate your local channels.
You will also get the local channels guide .

I am in the Atlanta DMA (Braves country *). I have MLB EI and all the out of market games (Indians, D-Backs, ...) are available to me in HD and SD. It doesn't matter what the "Dish" blackout status is.

I would imagine it's because the EI package is an MLB entity and you pay extra for it. They are not concerned about the "fights/issues" that Dish is having. You receive whatever is in the package that evening by whatever RSN is showing it.

I would imagine the Center Ice and League Pass packages will televise in the same fashion.

* On MLB EI the Braves games are blacked out for me plus the opposing team's telecast. No change from before the blackouts.

It's not just Disney, it's ABC (I'm assuming owned and operated on this one) and ESPN as well. I was getting a bottom scroll last night on my local ABC station regarding that.

MSG channels on Center Ice for example would be only SD.
So if FSNs are still there then it's good.

If that’s true, Dish should quit lying to their customers about being in negotiations, and drop the channels for good.

I’ll just sit back on the side lines eating a big of popcorn watching all the customers waiting in line to CANCEL.

Until January, when a price decrease happens, and is advertised as much cheaper to take away from the other traditional services. Two edges of the same blade.

You really believe that?

Ha ha NO

The best you can see is that they will announce no price increases because they saved money due to Fox sports.

Dish decrease prices? NEVER!
