See that's the issue. Instead of just updating the existing service, they have to make a new service to a relatively new service that was launch to a new service. It seems that the brass at HBO doesn't know whether to (explative) or wind their watch. How do you expect people to be confident in your service when you continuously go out of your way to complicate things.

Most of the brass onboard left HBO either voluntarily or forced out after the buyout. To me that makes it a different entity.

Hey, from today's uplink report, all of the INFO placeholder channels have finally been officially removed from the HBO and Cinemax channel numbers. (They had been hidden before.)

Does this mean that Dish is finally preparing to bring back HBO and Cinemax after all this time? That would be a great way to celebrate the one-year anniversary of HBO and Cinemax being removed.

Since at&t all but rebranded hbo as a poor mans Netflix yesterday, I’m thinking this is the official final nail for hbo on dish, forever. Wasn’t the rumor a few weeks ago that the 300 channels were going to become shortcuts for amazon prime, Netflix and YouTube?

How in the world do you translate "Removed" into "Coming back"?

Netflix is already on 302. There was an Amazon Prime app (presumably) uplinked on channel 303, but it has not been made available yet. I am not sure about YouTube. Channel 300 is the new home for the link to the regular On Demand Menu. In any event, all of those channel numbers are VOD or apps, not satellite-delivered channels, so they can easily co-exist in the Guide on the same channel numbers as regular channels, if Dish chooses to put regular channels on those channel numbers, in addition to the VOD links and apps.
 
I actually now have a second provider (have had for a few weeks), which is Spectrum TV Choice. Two channels of the ten basic cable channels that I picked are Oxygen and TVLand (so I could watch them in HD), and a few others that I picked are Freeform, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, two others are Fox News and Fox Business (for use as a second backup in case of storms, while the first backup are the Fox News and Fox Business apps), and the tenth channel I picked was BBC World News (just so I didn't have to subscribe to Dish's News Pack to get it, plus the ability to watch it in HD and the On-Demand). Plus I added a Cloud DVR as well about a week after I signed up. But being relevant to this thread I added the HBO and Cinemax channels (at the same time I added the Cloud DVR) for reasons you already can assume why. On the Dish side I recently changed it to America's Everything Pack.

In the same uplink report, they also added a second 4K channel that maps to 540-03. There is no content on it yet, but I would guess that is where the bandwidth is going. Keep in mind that the HBO/Cinemax placeholder channels that were removed were probably just slates with info about the dispute. (I had been hoping that the reason they were removed was because the dispute is almost over. I can dream, can't I?) So, as it was, they were probably not taking up very much bandwidth at all. The HD (and SD) bandwidth that had previously been used when Dish was still carrying the HBO and Cinemax channels was probably already reallocated a long time ago. It could have gone toward increased picture quality on existing channels, or perhaps toward the few new HD and SD channels that have been added since the dispute began last year.

Oxygen HD and TV Land HD are available through Dish Anywhere live streaming. It requires a Chrome or Safari browser, though. At the top of the Dish Anywhere Guide, slide the Streaming switch over to the right to see the live streaming channels listed in the Guide.

Nothing wrong with dreaming, I just believe that HBO/Cinemax aren't ever coming back to Dish, and if they ever do, it won't be the same channel lineup we used to have (not even close).

I haven't bought a 4k TV yet (not enough content and streaming content would just snarf my bandwidth so bad it'd be hideous), so I'm still holding off on a 4k set until there's a compelling reason to buy one...

I don't have a 4k TV yet either. But I do have a 4k monitor for my desktop.

Might I not string an HDMI cable to that to sample 4k content to see if bandwidth will handle it? Is there any content available to try it or is it all pay?

I forgot to mention the reasons I picked Freeform, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Junior were for more on-demand content. I mainly picked all the Disney owned stations for Marvel and Star Wars on-demand content, and Cartoon Network for other on-demand content, such as DC Comics superheroes stuff and others.

I plan on subscribing to the Disney streaming service. Outside of Star Wars and Marvel, theres nothing more for me. But, my kids love Disney.
