fox sports dispute

Correct, however WHEN Dish allows them to go dark, they can revert back to these statements and say “it’s been years coming with the expectation not to negotiate in good faith”.

Dish should just build a PR campaign around his words and say contact your elected officials to fix the laws and seperate local contracts from national ones.

Now, does everyone understand why DISH is giving away antennas and encouraging everyone to drop the locals? They're just tired of being held hostage by these second rate content providers.

It’s a fantastic investment, as long as they can hang on to a percentage of those customers. ATT is the best thing to happen to Dosh. They keep raising the price on their cheaper streaming service making Dish look great while everyone continues to hate Directv.

The only ideal way to fix this would be to separate local channel ownership from national ones. Otherwise, the pay-TV provider could still end up in separate disputes with the same content owner at the same time. The content owner could claim that the disputes are not related to each other, but we all would know better. Does anyone else remember when Dish was in simultaneous separate disputes over Voom, Fuse, MSG, Sundance Channel, and the AMC Networks (all owned by the same company)? Fortunately, there were no local broadcast channels involved in that dispute, but I think you get my point. None of those channels returned until a master settlement was reached for all of the popular national basic cable channels (with Voom and MSG never returning at all). In any event, with this current Fox Sports Net dispute, the local channels owned by Sinclair are not involved, at least not for now, and possibly not for a very long time.

Unless they play the same game they did with Directv, and use their not owned but operated channels as leverage sooner.

With no end to the blackout in sight I cancelled Dish after 17 years and switched to Hulu+Live TV. Dish offered me $40 per month off for a year but I passed. Dish would have still cost more than Hulu and no RSN.
Sent from my iPad using the SatelliteGuys app!

I lowered all my subscriptions on Dish and did the same thing. I need to watch my NBA team and have Hulu LIve also. Not a fan of it. I also had to pay an extra $11 a month for the enhanced DVR so I could fast forward through commercials (since I DVR the games and watch them later). Really sucks because other than the Fox Sports nonsense...I have been really happy with Dish. But it looks like I'll be doing the same thing: paying my early termination fee and moving to cable.
I'm assuming all this is true and there are really no updates or no expected changes to whats going on. (I am afraid that as soon as I cancel a deal will be worked out).

Like I said, according to dishpromise.com there are no expected updates on the Fox Sports Net dispute until January. Please go ahead and cancel as soon as possible, so the rest of us can get our sports networks back. ;) :D

I wouldn't be surprised if the powers behind DISH have the entire, or most of, investment in Locast....
Well, we know a $500,000 donation came from AT&T. No one "invests" in a non-profit of course, since they only accept donations. I wouldn't be surprised though, if Charlie encouraged the Dish upper management to donate to Locast while staying at arms length himself to avoid possible legal entanglements. There's probably something to be said for Dish helping to promote Locast by including their app on the Hoppers.

Well then why doesn't Dish invest in Locast behind the scenes.:spy
I was going to mention that, but there are still too many places where there is no reliable high-speed internet, so Locast will not work for everyone. Therefore, until high-speed internet is readily available everywhere that is not covered by the stations' OTA signals, there will still be a need for satellite-delivered local channels. Rural broadband access is where the investment truly needs to be made.

...and by having so many frequent local channel disputes, so Dish can promote Locast on the take-down slates in every market where Locast is available, and force affected subscribers to get used to using the app. ;)

The point is to devalue, however. If more people can get it this way, why would Dish or anyone pay more money? It’s a numbers game. Viewership is great, but ultimately “why should we pay you an increase when we are not seeing an increase in the value to pay you”. It could back fire as well, and they can say “for the rural customers”, but again, it is a game of RISK. I’m sure Charlie’s “Angels” in the accounting department can give a square price on what he would be willing to pay.

Based on rvvaquero's post, I thought the goal was to get to the point where Dish would not have to carry the local channels at all:
Now, does everyone understand why DISH is giving away antennas and encouraging everyone to drop the locals? They're just tired of being held hostage by these second rate content providers.

And of course, Dish actually is investing in a form of broadband access for rural areas by rolling out a 5G network with the spectrum they own. That is where I was going with this idea. Make the investment there first, and then Locast becomes a viable option for more people.

Okay, I get it now. Tampa8 was saying that the fact that I find your posts to be reasonable is not a good endorsement, since Tampa8 does not think my posts are reasonable. ;) :D
