My Dish Experience

Hello,
I recently moved from DirecTV to Dish and immediately experienced extremely poor picture quality. Sports in particular with motion blur and pixelation made viewing very difficult. (over this month and 1/2 I would leave the house to watch my team play.) Quality was not limited to sports but also with standard programming. This is on a new Sony Bravia 850 recently bought from Costco. I've had two technicians come out post-installation who acknowledged the poor quality but that all signals, cables and equipment were in proper working order. There was "nothing they could do." I asked if they are seeing what i'm seeing and they responded "yes." I have the Hopper 3 with 2 Joey's.

I've was on the phone with Dish for 2 hours last weekend. At the end of the day, Dish was unwilling to negotiate down my early termination. Tonight I called and cancelled as i cannot continue to watch this quality for 2 more years. They would not work with me on the early termination fee, i paid the $460 to cancel. To say I feel ripped off is an understatement.

Just wanted to share my experience. I've attached a picture that gives an idea of my picture.

There's no way Dish is outputting a picture that blurry.
Absolutely agree. That TV is set to 480i and then zoomed to fill the screen. I just set one up on Saturday for someone who had the exact same issue and didn't know how to correct it. As the saying goes, if all else fails, read the manual.

I understand the scepticism but can assure that settings were at 1080. That halftime show was the worst pixelation by far but sports in general are similar. Cancelled a Super Bowl party due to the issue. From the start I'd describe the picture as SD, regardless of program, which is why I had the two technician visits and they went through it all.

They both mentioned the receiver is probably not the issue but just couldn't offer a fix.

Full disclosure, I purchased a 65" LG 7 series the same week of install and returned it thinking it was a bad TV, went to an LG B9 OLED and had same picture issue, at that point it was clear it was not the TV.

I can't get video to upload, here's a couple more pictures.

Since you cancelled I won't go through what to check. Hard to believe a tech would just give up on a new install with an obvious problem. I don't think that was an HD channel you are showing or the receiver was not set to 1080 but even at that DISH SD is better than that.

Basketball is the worst for sports, the faces are blurred when moving where you can't make out the player. When it's a close up without motion it's much better, for example the free throw line. I've spent hours looking at TV setup contrast, trumotion on and off, etc.

In my discussion this evening Dish did offer to have a 3rd technician come out but I've simply can't take another 1/2 day and decided to throw in the towel. The $460 exit fee stings.

That looks like it was set up with composit cables instead of HDMI

I watched SD out the composite output of TV2 on an 722 for years, and even recorded some shows. DVD quality and pretty good. The above is beyond ghastly and you should not have to pay anything to either get it fixed or exit your contract.

Since it is the Superbowl the OP is showing us, it could just be the local Fox affiliate's feed to Dish.

I would send an email to the DISH executive offices attaching some of these pics. Let them contact the technicians who came out. I'd guess at the very least you'd get your money back. Now, if it's just one station, as suggested above, that's a different matter.

Did you get the 55" model (55X850G)? I just upgraded to that model from Costco last fall and I am blown away by the picture on my H3. It took a little while to tweak the settings to our liking, but we are very happy with it.

You're only showing examples of the SB halftime. Was all programming looking like that?

I have a hopper 3 with OTA on a LG Oled 55 inch C7 and my picture is really good! Not as good as watching OTA . 1st picture is the weather channel 2nd is the guide and 3rd is tv land sd

Something is not right about this post. Op is posting images from a event 2 weeks ago. Not anything recent.

I don't know if it's just me but I notice alot of new members posting in all different forums weird questions or situations that just don't add up and then disappearing
The Dish communities forum shut down. These are rollover people that think they are talking to Dish, usually.
