Bankers Predicting Sale of DTV

Thank you, for sharing this, CSM!

I think this is just a matter of time.

Who owns what we know as “DirecTV” almost doesn’t matter because of the trajectory the industry is on—moving away from traditional, linear television to the On Demand-like format of streaming.

I just read two pieces, and some of this is content I don’t think is suitable for me to post here, about economics. I mention this, briefly, to tie it in with this specific topic thread and any other than can be addressing DirecTV, Dish (or Dish Network), or any other MSO. People cutting back on subscribing is, I would say, based on their economics—their very personal, very real situation.

DirecTV, owned by AT&T, is glad anybody still subscribes. So, are all the MSOs. It costs more to win new subscribers than keep the current ones. So, whether AT&T gets a buyer from DirecTV—it is interesting for those who want to follow this; but, in the long run, it probably doesn’t matter to any of us who do not work for AT&T, do not have stock in AT&T, and do not generally care about AT&T.

The coming revenue collapse might be sudden. Between 1-2 years, as commitments end and as others simply stop paying. Especially as the “V” looks less likely, and a “U” or even “L” seem more likely.

Could AT&T TV have channel negotiation rights by having AT&T TV and HBOMax integrated on the same interface but still be separate services? Maybe that’s how they could sell a DTV but still be able to have channel negotiation rights? Look at what happens at the 18:05 mark in this video.

There is something wrong with that video. Because it also jumps to the TV settings showing up

It looks doctored

Next quarter ( April-June) will be a bloodbath for Traditional Providers and it will continue to get worst since the Broadcasters they carry will not have much in new content for awhile now, still no filming and most assume the Fall TV season will not start until January 2021 because of the virus.

On the other hand, Netflix and Amazon has said they have enough new content to last until the end of the year without a change in how they schedule, for example the next season of The Expanse is not due to be on till December.

Amazon said they finished filming a while ago and now all they have to do is special effects which they said some are working by home and in the office with distancing between workers.

I wonder how many TV show producers, writers, etc, are diligently working on ways to produce shows within the constraints of any COVID-19 restrictions for their area. Some current time set shows (Mom, soaps, etc) could probably even write the restrictions into their story lines.

After seeing the shows and movies that are shown on the HBO Max commercial, why would people want to pay $15 a month for shows and movies that most people have are already seen on cable and satelliteTV?

How is that different than ANY Streaming service ?
They all show movies that have already been on other Movie channels ....
As well as New content.

In many cases, if you currently have HBO, you get it free, depending on your situation.

Sorry, should have said in the commercial they show the Wonder Woman movie, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, South Park, etc. You don’t have to spend $15 extra, unless you get it for free when they are cable and satelliteTV now. The only reason to sign up would be if their was any new content that sounds interesting. Also with the others like CBS All Access they show more older classic TV shows in addition to their new shows.

Maybe because they want HBO and HBO Max gives you all of that and much more for the same cost.

One other thing I thought AT&T could be doing with HBOMax is maybe they see VOD is the future of TV and not DTV, UverseTV, AT&T TV, AT&T TV Now and WatchTV?

Eventually could they be thinking of not letting other TV providers have the channels they own because they would get rid of those channels and just want the content from them? They would divide that content into sections using just the channel names in HBOMax.

They wouldn’t need to negotiate those channels that AT&T own with the other TV provider? Unless they would get more money from distributing this channels than with just HBO Max?

Also I saw this latest post from thelayoff.com site.

“Received communication that wireless and video bundle are to cease offering/recommending unified billing. So, offloading DTV could be true.“

I'd rather have CBS AA for free instead of HBO MAX

interesting. everyone i heard that had DTV bundled with there wireless. drops em both because customer service is crap

Thats amazing ....
I haven't called ATT/D* in YEARS for an issue ...

How often do you really have to call in to the Customer Service anyways ?
getting the DVR replaced via a drop ship through fedex was a nightmare. the girl had me setup with another brand new install with another two year contract!!! when all i needed was a replacement genie drop shipped by fedex!!! that took a day to sort out once i noticed the pending install on my acct. thank god i got someone in merica because that took a day to sort out that mess that the girl made. i love DTV but there customer service is something less to be desired..
and it's all over the internets that once people cancel DTV they wind up dropping there wireless service as well!!! i guess that att is really pissing people off!!! i would prefer not to have to call them i have better things to do ;) . i also read that there not bundling wireless service with T.V. any longer as well..

I heard they are not pushing the cell phone service with the Directv anymore.

It’s a real hassle to sell when the customer likely already has another cut rate cellular provider.

It’s like trying to sell someone who is happy paying for a ford Escort to a Cadillac Escalade. People are not buying iy
