Detroit - The Paris of the Midwest
So where I live we have Comcast, WOW, and AT&T Fiber in addition to having access to Dish, Directv and Orby.

I literally have 3 Gig internet providers in my backyard.

I got AT&T gig service, Directv and Comcast Tv.

So I’m walking down the street the other day and we now have Rocket Fiber running lines in my neighborhood.

This would be the 4th gig based internet provider available at my home. 2 Fiber and 2 cable providers.

Rocket Fiber generally serves downtown Detroit with the entire city having access only to Comcast as AT&T has not ran fiber to most of the city.

I just don’t get why a 4th company would want to come into my area, where many other areas only have decent speeds with Comcast

You're lucky to have 4 options. I only have 2 (Consolidated and Comcast). But Comcast has a data cap, so I am stuck with Consolidated.

I can see why a 4th company would come in -- there is a lot of money to be made.

But your splitting the pie 4 ways.

Rocket would be better to build out in an area that is only served with (1) gig provider.

It’s good for me, but all this is going to do is create a price war.

That's amazing I cant wait to get rid of cable broadband for a fiber provider.

So att and rocket that's good to have 2 fiber providers
I dont count docsis as "gig" providers.

We have one choice, Spectrum and they just now have offered 400MB speed for $100 +. I'm at 100MB for $70. Would be nice to get some competition here but there is not enough population to warrant an investment. :(

Yup ...
They will look at one another and RAISE prices.

Here, as for Gig speeds, I have zero choice ...

I think I can get 300 IF I wanted to Pay for it, its ridiculous though.

I just checked, 200 is the best I can get for $119. plus all the taxes and fees involved.
There is 100 available, for $99 .
Also, theres 25 mg for $39

Nothing between 39 and 100 dollars though.

And, this is obviously not Fiber.

My new house is in a Charter area with no other options, my entire adult life I have been with Comcast for Broadband, going to be strange switching.

Comcast has a no Data Cap plan called xFi Advantage, it is $15-20 more ( depends on area)which includes the modem rental, I pay $95 a month total for 1G service and xFi, you have to have 300 speed minimum to get advantage.

I live way out in the country, and have 1Gbps/1Gbps fibre from our electric co-op.

They’re actually the only ISP to serve this particular area now.

CenturyLink did have 1.5Mpbs or 4.0Mpbs DSL but, since fibre came through, they lost practically all the customers that their DSLAMs in the area served, and they never upgraded any lines before the co-op wired the area. So from what I understand, they just gave up on DSL for this area.

From the look of things, can’t beat the price, $80 per month for 1Gbps service, unlimited data, and no teaser rates.

Very lucky to live way out in the country and have this type of service available here.

Before this came nearly two years ago, I was paying CenturyLink nearly the same for 4.0Mpbs DSL with 256Kpbs upload.

Yeah you’re lucky Claude, like others on here, I don’t have any access to Gig service. We have Cox, Century Link, and cellular 5G options, but none of them have Gig service yet on my street.

Only one provider with Gig, Comcast. Centurylink fiber is within a 1/4 mile but not offered at my address. Centurylink only offers DSL over 50+ year old copper. Last time I tried it I couldn't get over 40mbs down even with with pair bonding.

No choice at all for me.

I can get gig from Cox at my main residence, but I don't think Cox can reliably deliver that at the moment. Even then uploads are not more than 30Mbps and I know they can't deliver that currently. I also won't pay the extortion for Cox gig service and still be stuck with a data cap. My other choice is 3-4Mbps DSL. Windstream has fiber within a 500ft of my home in both of the new neighborhoods across the street from my neighborhood to the east and to the south, but haven't done any upgrades to the legacy infrastructure to even give us bonded service. Apparently areas on the other side of town have been upgraded to 100/100 and 50/50 services.

Las Vegas is the same I can get gig from Cox or 3Mbps DSL from Centurylink. My lake cabin was upgraded by Windstream a couple years ago to get bonded 15Mbps DSL, but last year Vyve bought all the old unused cable infrastructure around the lake, refurbished and upgraded the lines out there and I switched to their cable service which offers gig, but I chose to get a slower 25Mbps, which is all I really need out there for the occasional week and weekend use. At least it's reliable as opposed to the always failing windstream service.

We won't see 5G here anytime soon.

Same here in my part of town in Hampton roads , VA

3meg dsl or cox "gig" which has constant outages.

I had 3meg DSL for 10 years 0 issues but then speed is not enough for the modern streaming era .
Although hard wired I could do 3 netflix streams at same time.

Sadly my office was skipped for fios

Mine is $15 including the modem and unlimited data until Feb.2021, I will be gone from them well before that date.

I have 100 Mbps fiber with unlimited data and landline pone service for about $103 a month (which includes all the taxes and fees).

Biggest problem with the landline phone is that people try to send text messages to it. Of course they don't go through. But the sender does not get an error message and thinks their text was sent! You would think in 2020 that they could figure out how to notify the sender that the text did not go through.
