2019-20 NCAA Football Thread

So far, they said that they went conference only so they had open dates to adjust to if needed ...
However, if thats so, you would think they would start the season when they normally do ... but it sounds like they may wait till middle of September to start, that doesn't help at all to skip a week or so to recover, that would be playing 10 games straight through ... they could do that regardless.

Florida governor pushing for FSU-Florida to still be played (if there’s a season). I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Georgia, South Carolina, and Kentucky governors doing the same thing. And with them being State schools, they could probably make it happen.

SEC is probably trying to avoid these games in order to not give those teams a potential loss, seeing how the additional 2 games they gave their top teams are all the weakest teams of the other division.

I don’t think the scheduling or the leaving off the ooc rivalry games has anything to do with giving those teams a possible loss.
Outside of Georgia and Clemson, nobody else in those groupings will realistically be in any end of season playoff conversations.

So a loss wouldn’t mean much, or anything. Nor would a win.
Except for bragging rights.

I hope thats not the case ...
The MAC being a Group of 5 conference, doesn't really have anything to do with the Power 5 conferences.

IF the Power 5 Conferences decide that its not safe, then tthe dominosay fall to play in the spring.

IF it turns out that the Power 5 does play, the Group of 5 moves to the Spring could be a good thing for those schools, they would essentially be moving from the Power 5 group and they could have thier own Conferences Playoff among themselves, which is what they probably should do egardless of this situation.

Heres hoping we get football this fall, and its safe enough to do so.

The NFL can do a Bubble thing if they choose to, th College teams cannot.

I think this CFB season is dead my friends.

It sure seems headed that way.

Its odd for me. With the near total lack of sports for most of the year, I am not nearly as excited as I normally would be if it did come back, and news of cancellation or postponing is met with more of a "meh" than I expected. Maybe its how I thought it would come back that has me less caring than I normally would be. I dont really know.

It appears so. Looks like we have to hope for Spring Football.
Not so fast my friends .....

Lets not jump the gun ... let things play out.

Of the Power 5 Conferences, I could see the Pac 12 dropping out, if any one does.
Then, it will be interesting to see what the others do.

Reports are that the Big Ten has already decided to postpone the season and have talked to the other Power 5 conferences about doing the same.

That explains why players and coaches are coming out saying they WANT to PLAY ....

I'm sure the colleges are mainly worried about liability in the event players get sick, die, etc, and the financial losses are going to be brutal either way. MLB, the NBA and professional leagues have fewer moving parts, etc. to worry about and because $$ are involved they can gain compliance from their players. Colleges don't have that luxury. These kids are going to socialize, party, etc. It's impossible to "bubble" CFB. You either take the gamble or you don't. The big question is... how many people actually "believe" this will be any better in the Spring? Seems like we heard that three months ago? Might as well just cancel if that is the plan. No way it goes to the Spring amid flu season.

They do have a point though, about, where are they safer from the virus, in training with the coaches or back at home running around doing whatever all the others are doing.

I agree that its much easier for the NFL to do it seeing they have a much smaller amount of teams to potentially make Bubble fields than Colleges would.

Agreed, some kid is forced to play (let's be honest, it won't be voluntary for most of them) and contracts the virus due to playing. If his health is affected enough to ruin his chances of playing pro, he's got a case for a lawsuit.

Much easier, as the NFL is a job, and NCAA is "extracurricular activities" on top of the "studies" in school.
