I'm hoping you guys can help. DISH tech support was clueless....

OK, I'm a dinosaur -- 722k user! Well, I plan on upgrading to a Hopper 3 and anticipating the move have over a week's time been transferring DVR recordings from my 722k to a hard drive (which I had previously used to offload recordings). The WD drive is DISH compliant in size and is self-powering (it plugs in to wall for power). Until this morning it worked fine. Recordings were transferred from DVR to HD and were playable.

This morning, I went to check on last night's transfers and the DVR can't find or recognize the external drive. Under manage media devices, the drive doesn't show up.

If i reboot the receiver with WD HD connected and go to manage media, I get this screen (see Photo 4093) and the device freezes. I can only use the remote and unfreeze if I remove the WD HD. Then I get this message (See photo 4094)

And sometimes it produces a message that this is an unsupported device. See photo.

I've rebooted more times than I can recount. I've switched power cords and USB cables to the drive and tried both 722 USB ports. No difference.

I don't know whether the drive is corrupted or if the 722 is the issue. I guess I might find out when the H3 arrives in a few days, but am wondering:

Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm really hoping that all my recordings are not lost.

BTW, I've seen older threads with some HD issues, but nothing on point.

FWIW, viewing the HD on my iMac with Disk Utility, I can see there is data on the rive but don't see a partition. See attached photos.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like an external harddrive failure. Its unlikely you'll be able to keep your recordings. My recommendation would be to send in the HD to a data recovery specialist and see if they can transfer your data to a new drive. If you get a new drive I highly recommend going with an enterprise drive. It will cost a bit more, but they're also designed to last longer.

Also, when you get the H3 in, do you have a hybrid LNB set up? Because the regular LNB isn't capable of handling 16 tuners. Max you could do is 6 and thats with an integrator and all 3 ports wired. The hybrid LNB only requires 1 line to run 16 tuners. The entire system works differently from a VIP setup.

Also DISH tech support is clueless 99.9% of the time. They're just reading from a prompt. They've likely never even seen a receiver in real life. You should see some of the work orders that get built for us techs. It's like they're just pushing buttons at random. Half the time I have to call and have the work order modified, and half the time then they give me pushback and I have to explain to them the system won't work as they have it and that if I just put in the correct equipment I'll end up having to pay for it.

Thanks. A tech came out last week but couldn't complete the order because it is a roof mount. He tried to locate a new dish near roof's edge but couldn't clear trees there. He can use the old dish and LNB's he says if someone runs more cables from them. I think it is a DP 500 plus (1000?). I called a guy who did run those cables. DISH )same tech) is coming on Saturday. His plan is a "42 switch" and hub. Will I be limited to 6 tuners (not that I need 16 but he never mentioned it)?

With those extra cables and the DPH42 switch, you will be ready for the Hopper 3, with all 16 tuners working, without needing to change the LNB on the dish. The 42 switch handles all of the Hybrid stuff that would otherwise require a Hybrid LNB.

He currently has a 722 so he doesn't have a Hybrid LNBFand the LNBF has nothing to do with the number of tuners. There is no receiver Combo that has 6 tuners, unless you're talking about 3 dual tuners.

Same problem. Using a Fantom external 2TB HD advertised as compatible for Dish 722k DVR. Receiver does not recognize any external device. HD works and appears normal when I plug it into my computer. Of course Dish support is clueless. Any updates on resolution?
