Miss my Orby...

So far $99 / month
$499 up front.
Well worth it for those that are only getting a piss poor speed in rural areas.

I have seen many of them posting they are paying $60/70 for barely 3/1 speed because that is all they can get, Starlink then is not more then what they are paying ( the upfront costs do suck).

Not really missing Orby all that much. The satelite system I used before got shut down and I did without for awhile. I got used to antenna tv and get enough from my streaming devices to keep me entertained. Now using orby for fta. Going to see if the 13 v sat output will power an antenna amplifier. If It will I can unplug the power supply I am now using.

I'm sure there will be several people who will be thrilled to pay the $99 month for decent high speed internet.. That will open up the options for streaming TV and then have the choice of not having to pay for high priced Satellite TV..I would be happy with starlink $99 and Philo $20 instead of $60 slow speed internet and over $100 month for 3tv's Satellite..

Well to me the loss of Orby TV is just further evidence that the idea of offering a low cost linear pay TV service is just not sustainable. ...

It just seems that for linear TV at least, anything other than the free advertisement supported OTA model that's been around forever is not stable. The moment it goes to the pay model cost control eventually becomes impossible bringing down the entire service.

Before greed dominated and there were a few networks who genuinely wanted to provide good content such as the 1980s, there were low cost services. Cband was the great example.
Don't worry, everyone will jump on the streaming ship and it will be the same thing except every time there is a storm or big internet outage, your TV won't work either.

The last big storm we were involved in, it was our cell Internet and onboard generator that let us keep watching streaming TV.

Guess I do not know much about internet speed and all that. I am in a rural area and download paying for 25 mpbs speed and usually get between 27 and 28 mpbs. ping is 11 and upload is 3.33. I think limit is 300 gig per month. With no toll cost telephone and internet my bill usually runs $83.50 per month. Is that a good deal? Since I live alone and do not watch too many movies 300 gb works for me. Have 2 separate tv antenna,s connected to main tv that i can watch without internet.. I also have the antenna,s connected to my tablo and hdhomerun dvr,s that I can play on main tv and all other tv,s. My daughter was here for a couple months and I used over my 300 gb limit as she watched too much Netflix which would go over my 300 gb limit. Lucky for me that my internet provider raised the limit to 800 gb. so the kids could go to school over the internet. They will probably go back to the 300 gb. limit as all the kids are back in school here in local area.

It won't be just the rural people who want "Starlink." I put my business/home on the list because Charter/Spectrum is so pitifully awful in our town. They will not recognize upload issues, businesses in their model pay TWICE what a residence does for the exact same service, and the same problems recur constantly. If over time after getting Starlink it proves more stable, we'll dump the wired service....and make a few adjustments in how we do things. We'll have to change how we get our audio to the sister city, using any change in service, but it can be done....and, if they eventually cap the service use, that may change our long term plans, but we'll try it even though we ARE served by one of the "biggies." BTW, I too miss Orby, but...between over the air, pluto TV on the web and Philo, (and I have FTA) I'm MORE than covered for entertainment!

Well I did it, caved and signed up for Dish. Surprised me that I signed up today and they're installing between 8 AM and noon tomorrow. Package I got is just about what I had with Orby, just more channels we're not interested in, and a little more a month. Getting a $300 debit Mastercard incentive with the signup that will offset the increase over Orby.
SWMBO is happy which means I'll be better off too LOL.
Lady who signed me up said they were surprised by Orby's demise and that they had over 600 calls from Orby orphans the first hour the day after the announcement!

So you took the Orby's offer from Dish or you signed up on your own?

I was waiting to see if Dish would contact me with a better offer than the Orby deal, and today I got a mailing from Dish, which included the $300 Mastercard (to be sent in 6-8 weeks). The offer was for 120+ channels for $64.99 and the card. Ended up at $59.19 because I went with 24 month contract, will auto pay, and supply my own locals through my antenna, which saved an additional $15.
The Orby deal doesn't include the $300 card, this is a better deal for us.

Is the $59.19 your actual monthly payment or do taxes/fees/etc still need to be added. Also, how many rooms for that price?

There will probably be a few dollars in local taxes, but the rep said Dish was done with me at the $59 for the 1 TV we will use. I was going to go with the Dish locals until I found out that was either $12 or $15 a month extra! My OTA will handle my locals just fine, thank you!

I don't know what it is, but the rx is a "Hopper 2" which is supposed to be able to record 3 channels at once I think she said. The monthly $59 includes DVR.
The Hopper 2 with an Internet connection will also give you access to the free DishAnywhere app for Android and IOS phones, as well as streaming devices like the FireTVstick. Make sure your installer includes a "SNAP" external graphics processor with the installation. The SNAP speeds up menu and program guide transitions significantly.

I don't have anything but cell internet, and doesn't seem to be fast enough to be useful for anything, or I'd be streaming: I don't know much about that stuff.
