NFL 2021

As a reminder to all people how fickle life is in the NFL, Sony Michel is traded to Rams (wherever they play these days... I think maybe Austin?) for a couple picks. Michel had a couple good years with the Pats and was appearing like a bright star for the team. Last season with injuries and Covid, his production collapsed. Thing didn't end up as was hoped and now he has been traded. This sort of thing is what continues to roll around in my mind about the Browns fans that think the playoffs are foregone conclusion and the Super Bowl a very likely possibility. Success in the NFL seems almost as much to do with luck as it does with talent and work ethic.

Wow! I didn't see that coming. Figured Newton would play a bit, get hurt, Jones comes on and it is what it is.

I have no idea how much pressure is on Jones at this point. He is a rookie, the Patriots didn't make the playoffs last year, and with so much success in the bag, at least a fan like me can wait a bit for success. Just want a team that tries.

The decision wasn't made too late, giving Jones time to settle in and be ready. I know the nation will be on the edge of their seat hoping Jones isn't the next Brady. :eeek

Zolak and Bertrand are speculating that the Patriots aren’t done yet. Could a Jimmy G reunion be happening? That may be a little extreme, but I do hope they bring in a veteran QB. Brian Hoyer as a #2 is not gonna cut it!!

Why not? The Patriots don't have to make the playoffs this year. What is the rush, other than having a great offensive line to protect the new guy? Let's not sound like a bunch of New Yorkers here.

Yeah, this took me by surprise as well. I figured Jones would get the job sooner rather than later, but I fully expected Cam to start the first few weeks.

Because I think the Patriots have a decent shot to make the playoffs. Front seven of the defense is vastly improved with the 2020 opt out returns, free agent signings and draft picks (Christian Barmore is a BEAST), great offensive line, deep stable of running backs and the twin tight end signings. All that and they are one Mac Jones injury away from their roster improvement becoming irrelevant. Brian Hoyer sucks and he doesn’t belong anywhere near a team that has playoff hopes.

I like Jones and expect him to do well in NE.
Obviously didn't like him in College, but this isn't college.

I was hearing today that the Cowboys could be a landing spot for Cam.
I wonder how much his vaccination status could factor into that.

Going to be a big deal for a lot of free agents. Cowboys for example are now transitioning to game prep and play in 9 days. If they signed anyone who's unvaccinated they can't join the team in person for at least 5.

Would love the Patriots to try and get get Nick Foles to back up Mac Jones. Foles is currently behind Andy Dalton and Justin Fields on the Bears depth chart, so I’m sure the Bears would listen to offers.

Bears have been trying to trade Foles ... however, for some reason they have made a point of trying to send him where HE WANTS to go.
I find that Bizarre seeing they haven't offered the same for any others they want to trade.

The Obvious one was going to Indy when Wentz went down, he would have been under Frank Reich, which he already knew his offense.
Colts probably didn't want the same situation as Philly had ... maybe.

Anyone think that Indy hid the truth about the Wentz when he was originally injured ?
Wentz is back in time for the start of the season, I think originally they said he'd be out 8 games.

Well, you got your wish ... Brian Hoyer has been released.
How do you feel about going into the season with Stidham as your only other QB on the roster (subject to change of course)
