MLB 2022 Season

All MVP awards are for any sport are popularly contests. I wonder if they give it to who they like vs who deserves it.

Trout is said to be the nest player in the sport. Unfortunately he plays on the west coast for a team nobody cares about. How can he be the best player that nobody even sees. The Angels have been bad for years, Trout is hurt now. Ohtani is probably the best player on the Angels but again how can he have value if the team is bad.

Judge is putting up historic numbers that we might never see again. He leads every batting average.

It’s only one of the most historic numbers in sports.
Don't forget Albert Pujols going for 700 home runs.

That number is more about longevity. The single season record to me is a bigger deal.
The potential Triple Crown is the Biggest deal ...

Some one will come along and do the HR 's eventually, particularly with the way the game is played now ... band box ballparks and everyone hits a HR or strikes out.

I don’t know where you’re getting this narrative that HR’s are way up, when in fact home run rates have dropped each of the last 3 years. This season significantly so. This season will have the lowest home run rate since 2015.

Well they did mess with the ball again....Have you forgotten that Twins team who broke the all time team record for HRs? That was only a few years ago.

No, I haven’t forgotten that. I’m just showing that league wide home runs have been on a decline for 3 straight years now.

I guess the numbers point otherwise, but it sure seems that the only way Most teams score is by the HR ...
This probably means that over all scoring is down as well.

Yep, according to that box, runs scored is also on a 3 year decline.

The stat that really shocks me is strikeout rates being down. You could have knocked me over with a feather on that one!

To help the Judge for MVP even more ...

In games the Yankees have won, Judge has a slash line of .350/.438/.832; in games they've lost, he has gone .256/.388/.482. -- Olney

Typical of MLB that tomorrow night’s Red Sox-Yankees game will be streaming exclusively on Apple+. Let’s say Aaron Judge goes homerless or hits 1 homerun tonight. Tomorrow night Judge will be going for history and it will be nothing but a rumor for a good chunk of baseball fans. Even more typical of MLB is they’ve already came out today and said they won’t change it. One would think that they’d make this game available to the RSN’s and/or MLB Network. What better way to draw in casual fans then to make a potentially historical game more accessible. Just another example that shows you how clueless MLB stewardship is.

Apple paid too much for the rights. They won't give it up.

I know, but you would think something could be worked out considering the circumstances. I remember back in 2007 when the Patriots were going for a perfect 16-0 regular season. The Patriots-Giants Week 16 game was scheduled as an exclusive NFL Network telecast on a Saturday night. It was such a historic game that the NFL let NBC and CBS simulcast NFLN’s feed (and Bryant Gumbel and Cris Collinsworth’s call). Why couldn’t Apple make a similar arrangement with MLBN? I get that it’s a totally different situation because we’re talking about a streaming service that’s trying to get eyeballs, but back in 2007 NFLN had a much lower viewership than it has today and they had no problem farming out their telecast.

The league said today that they are not changing the game.
