Dish Network equipment upgrade message

Many years ago the Eastern Arc was converted to 100 percent MPEG4

Back in March of this year, Dish started the phase out of MPEG2 on the Western Arc.
At that time, they said they expected it to be completed in a year.

Customers older boxes and equipment are being replace as needed at no cost to the customer.

I would assume I’m on Eastern Arc in North Carolina. A little confused that if I’m on Eastern arch and Mpeg4 conversion has already been done why equip has been working to date - or have they allowed older equipment to still function until now ? Basically I’m only using 119 at this time. Thanks for your input.

I’m using just 119 now with the old equipment. I assume I’m in Eastern Arch? If so odd I’m still able to use the old equipment if that conversion has already been completed. Trying to be sure I’m purchasing correct dish

119 is western arc. Your local SD channels are on 119 and HD channels are on 61.5 which is eastern arc. The SD channels are going away and that is why you will need to upgrade both equipment and go to the eastern arc.

119 is Western Arc. That is where the SD feeds of your locals are located (but will soon be going away). Dish put the HD feeds for your market on 61.5, which is Eastern Arc. Here is a chart showing the locals for Greensboro, NC:

Many thanks. Glad everyone has been so accommodating to all My questions.

I have VIP receivers and Eastern Arc, but I have a wing dish on 118.7 for international channels. I am getting the loss of locals warning/equipment upgrade for Charleston/Huntington WV locals. But since I am on Eastern Arc already, I should be good right? Isn't the HD feed for those on 61.5?

Yes, the HD feeds are on 61.5. Not sure why you are getting warnings unless it is a global screen warning to make your neighbors aware.

For some reason there is an old 311 receiver listed on my account. Maybe that is why. I've called them to remove it, but they assure me it is deactivated. But, it is still listed.

As long as it is listed you will get the message. Deactivated and removed are different things. They need to remove it from your account.

I’m trying to figure out how you have a wing dish for the 118 unless what you really have as an international dish that’s only using one side of the LNB Connected to an eastern arc dish

Weird. The SD feeds are on the 129 satellite. Do you have 129 as part of your mixed-arc setup?

Or, as long as it is still listed, take Dish up on their offer of a free replacement receiver. ;)

Same issue here. Message says I will be losing my locals (Sherman TX locals). my receivers are VIP722k and VIP211z so they should be ok. So what exactly do I need to get my locals? I currently have a DISH Network 1000.2 DISH PRO PLUS INTEGRATED LNBF and am pointing southwest? Just a Dish Network 1000.2 Eastern Arc DPP Twin LNBF and re-aim it? What about the rest of the channels that were on the Western Arc? I would now get them all on the Eastern arc but with different numbers? Thanks

If your locals are also on Eastern Arc (EA) you just need the lnb for EA because all the other channels on EA and WA have the same channel numbers. Channelwise EA and WA are identical except for the locals.

That's a weird one because your HD locals are already on Western Arc at the 129 satellite:

The only one that is SD-only on 110 is the CW, and I assume that would simply be converted to MPEG-4, just like the matching feed on 61.5 already is.

If the replacement is at NO COST, why not just let them do it. ...
In littleboss's case, it looks like the replacement is not even necessary. I would say wait and see what happens. It is not like you need to get the equipment switched out before the MPEG-2 locals go away, to take advantage of the free equipment offer. If littleboss actually loses any local channels because of this, then it would be time to call Dish and get the upgrade. If customers in a situation like littleboss described are actually being affected by these changes, then so much for Dish Technical Operations's stated goal:
The goal of this project is to affect as few people as possible with these changes.

Your fees might be a little higher...
Then it is not truly at no cost.

...but probably cheaper thn buying receivers, lnbs, and dishes, and maybe even cabling. It all adds up.
That all depends on how long you are planning to stay with Dish. If you are not going to stay with Dish long enough for the upfront equipment purchase investment to pay itself off, then you are probably better off not even doing the upgrade in the first place. Just stick with what you already have until either you leave Dish on your own, or Dish kicks you off of the service because your equipment no longer works.

I don't get any of those 5xxx channels on either receiver.. (5164, 5163, etc). Is that where they are moving too or where they are now? I currently get them on 7521,7523 etc
