Who cares..they are losing subs too..they had 34 million at one time
Well I guess they are real Luxury TV then.

And no they didn’t, the most Video customers they had was 23.99 million in 2016 ( still more then DirecTV because it is real luxury TV).

Broadband a little over 32 million.

You don't realize sunday ticket is a luxury that appeals to people who like luxury tv( directv is not a luxury)

The same cheapskates who wouldn't subscribe to directv to get sunday ticket will not pay apple or amazon $300 for sunday ticket by itself

Nope. Just basic math. Virtually everyone in the USA has access to DirecTV. A simple fact. Less people than that have access to mega quality internet.

Basic math?

What does “has access” have to do with anything? How many folks actually subscribe to DirecTV?

More than 85% of the U.S. actually has broadband internet.

Which one is less again?

Don’t tell Sam that.

And again, just like a few others who do not have DirecTV that have posted here and myself, we have all said we will subscribe to it.

Just will not give DirecTV $2000 a year just for being able to subscribe to it.

And next year, I will have the majority of content from Traditional Channels, NFL, MLB, NHL, Big Ten Football, Exclusive Streaming Shows and new Movies all in 1080P or 4K, Dolby Digital+ or Atmos from Streaming Services and OTA, most with no commercials, all for the monthly cost that would be less then the average of a monthly DirecTV bill.

That is real Luxury Television.

People in the city have less access to Directv. More people live in cities than Rural areas where there is no broadband.

Directv costs thousands a year to have and only provides a portal to the channels they provide.

Streaming opens the door, not closes it.

Umm those 79 million would only have to call 1 800 directv and they could subscribe to that service..and get this..I know it's hard to believe..but no expensive internet service required..just a dish on your roof
Internet is cheaper than DTV.

Thats ok but you have no problem spending that much on just internet

The people who left MVPDs entirely, rather than switching from cable/satellite to a streaming MVPD like Sling etc. are almost all not sports fans. The majority of high value (i.e. not stuff like MLS) sports are only available from a traditional MVPD on ESPN/2/U, FS1, RSNs, BTN/SECN/etc., various other networks that run some sports like USA/TNT/TBS, and of course the big 4 networks.

Most people can get the big 4 networks with an antenna, so if everything they want to watch (or are willing to limit themselves to) is available via OTA and there is spotty availability via streaming alternatives so a few sports fans might be able to drop an MVPD subscription but the vast majority wouldn't consider it.
But this may be starting to change now that RSNs are going DTC. Bally Sports+ launched in the five markets where it has DTC rights for MLB teams back in the summer. But they have DTC rights for all the NBA and NHL teams on their linear RSNs, so they've now launched Bally Sports+ in all their markets. And NESN up in New England launched their own DTC service this year too.

If you're a die-hard fan who needs to be able to watch every game your team plays, yeah, you're gonna need a full-blown cable TV package. But then you also may need multiple streaming services too; for instance, both Apple TV+ and Peacock feature some exclusive MLB games you can't watch anywhere on the cable dial.

But I can imagine there being a lot of fans who would be fine watching their teams' games on Bally Sports+ and then supplementing that with whatever may be on the broadcast nets via OTA, without the need for those additional national games (few of which would feature their local team) on cable nets like ESPN, TNT, FS1, etc.

Yeah, for me, that was in 2007 as DirecTV 10 satellite was coming online. Cable had all of 10 HD channels and D* was about to have something like 50. It was fun watching them grow the HD offerings over the years.

It was a good 10+ year run with them, but when they offered DirecTV Now for about $100/month less that my satellite bill for a package with all the channels I want, I made the switch. I remember waiting for the big DVR upgrade… I joined a couple of weeks too late to get it in beta.

Worst thing AT&T/D* did was change the DirecTV Now streaming model to mirror the satellite packages. Huge price hike. At that point, YouTube TV became the best option. That was about when PlayStation TV died.

YouTube TV + internet combined is about $10 more than my last D* bill from around 2017. That’s for unlimited 1 GB internet. When I had D*, I was paying Spectrum something like $70 per month for internet. It’s speed was about 100 MB.

The teleco ran fiber here in the mid 2010s.
I just got Fiber to my neighborhood earlier THIS year.

1 Gbps for $70 flat, no router charge. They are selling 2 Gbps now. I can't image who needs 2 Gbps, other than pirates downloading 4K files to their 240 TB RAID setup.

Most people do not need 1G, but I have it, heck, if 2G was available I would have it instead.

Just ordered the new ipad pro because it has the M2 chip and it is 20% faster, did not need it, my 2021 Pro I bought 18 months was just fine, but the new one is faster, the 2021 model will go to my daughter.

Now looking at the new Apple TV, it has a 10/100/1000 ethernet port, unlike the Roku Ultra which only has a 10/100 port, which is just fine, never a issue, but the new Apple TV is faster.

What does a 13 year old picture have to do with anything?

From your link- Date taken: 18 November 2009

Take a current pic, based on losing 11 million Subscribers, I would bet most of those Dishes to be gone.

Probably streaming or have Comcast since they have 17 million subscribers.

That is the answer.

Not that long ago, there was no streaming. And most everyone paid for cable, DISH, or DirecTV. Where were these people back then? The number of ST subscribers back then was about the same.

When ST goes to streaming, at the end of the day, a leopard cannot change its spots. Cheap is as cheap does. We will have a long thread complaining about how much ST costs and how useless what it is predicated up is to the cheap. With the same sayings (see above) you see in every thread about streaming. “I saved …” “I don’t miss ….. that much” and “someday they will just have to sell me …… “. No, no they won’t.

BTW, checked again this morning. ESPN is still linear only.
