iOS, MacOS, etc. 26 is making me seriously consider switching

Today's annoyance: Apple Fitness simultaneously thinks I have 857 active calories and 81 exercise minutes while showing Saturday (up top) as being a very light day.

I've not seen that, but I usually don't use the Fitness+ app on my iPhone. Try sliding the rings to the left and see what it does.

Yeah, I played around with it, restarted the app, etc. It is showing me a mix of data from the current and previous days. I've had an Apple watch for 10 years, and it never worked like this before the latest iOS update.

If it wasn't clear, I regret upgrading. I recommend everyone who can wait until they fix the problems or come out with something better.

The problem with waiting is apparently the previous generation of iDeviceOS has an exploitable vulnerability that can compromise your iDevice security. I don't know if it's something that Apple can fix, which bums me out with family members with vision issues which would make "Liquid Glass" impossible to use.

I've not tried but I thought it was possible to turn off the Liquid Glass feature?

I haven't tried it yet. I need to be sure on their iPad as there's no going back. Also, the windowing in iPadOS needs to be shut down to prevent any possible confusion. That's fairly easy to do.

I guess I don't feel obligated to have the latest and greatest. I updated my Mac in 2015. The OS and Office stopped getting upgrades years ago, but it keeps on doing most everything I need it for. Last year, TurboTax stopped supporting/ working on Monterrey, so I changed tax programs.
I suppose atsome point I may need to change, but I may just go pure android tablet at that point. I do most work on one anyway and simply can't justify Apple's prices for my simple needs.

Is Apple now adopting the Microsoft stance that previous versions of its OS don't need to be actively maintained? This is especially inexcusable given an annual release cycle.

This is also important in an environment where there's obvious push-back against changes that are perceived as undesirable or unfinished (i.e., Apple Intelligence that arguably isn't yet what they touted in the previous version).

I didn't write it, so I don't know what the vulnerability is or why it can't be patched. Apple is insisting on moving to OS 26 for safety. I agree, if it can be patched to remove the exploit, they should be required to support old OS versions for a minimum of three years.

So, you have a Macintosh that you've been able to use for eleven years. I think you've gotten your money's worth out of your investment.

I found I was experiencing iCloud synch issues because my 2014 iMac couldn't go past one of the California landmarks. So, I got the Mac Mini with M4 Pro in 2024 and I'm ready for another ten years. I probably would have had to get three PCs in the same timeframe. But now I just need to replace the Mini, not the screen and CPU in the iMac.

I agree, and the mini is probably a good idea. It would make a ton of sense if I was still working and needed serious firepower. But I am in my late 70s and retired. I browse the net, use word and excel, occasionally use a videoconferencing app and do taxes. As long as those still work, I have no need to upgrade. When I do, I will look into beefing up the tablet instead.
