First Look: The New Weather Channel Interactive

Each receiver is likely treated individually and remember, 75% of the receivers will NOT get it right away. The fact that two or your three recievers did beats the odds, but does it really matter ??

Also, it does NOT seem to matter where you're located, nor does it matter what software release your box is on (assuming it's the latest or previous at least).

By the way, it shows up on channel 100 for me, but when I access it, it tells me something like "this feature isn't available yet on your receiver" and to check later or something....
Sounds like you are being a naysayer ... :)

BTW: I don't think anyone doubted that this would eventually get on Dish ... it's just that Dish has a well known track record of announcing things before their time (NBR on the 5xx, anyone?). This feature was to go live on 09/29/06, actual rollout 11/08/06 - actually not too bad.

BTW2: Feature active on Dish Home of my 721. Overall very nice, appreciate the option to select a different city (this will help with travel planning). Only suggestion would be either to zoom in a bit more on the regional radar screens (Mid-Atlantic regional radar shows from New York south as far as Georgia, west as far as Missouri) or at least show them full screen (currently the radar uses perhaps 1/4 of the screen). As it is the regional radar is a *bit* difficult to read.

I hear rumors that the 311 will not get this feature. I have a 508 and a 301 (thought it was a 311 but double checked and the sticker clearly said DP301 sw P249.)

Is a 301 "like" a 311 and lumped into the "will not get feature" group? Usually any machine in a series with a lower number is a legacy system. I have been with dish for 7 years but have never really figured out their system number schema!

BTW: Still no WCi here in Maine with software revision P363 on my 508.

Interesting to note- when I called it up on my ViP622, I had to select state and city. But when I tested it on my 508, it went straight to my local weather without my selection. So did my choice in the ViP622 get "shared" with my 508? Or did the 508 "remember" my local area selection from when similar info was available previously?
Dish knows where you live and as noted on the 1st page of this thread, it defaults to that location. Odd that it didn't work for the 622 though.

I know Dish has said they plan to do this or plan to do that, but do they ever put dates on those ?? Nope... This one had a planned release date, one that was not very far away at all. To me, that means it's not vaporware, but is something that exists internally or even with beta testers.

I have had satellite off and on for the past 6-8 years and survived just fine without real "local" weather from TWC. More importantly, I have patience ! :) If I got this feature, great. If I didn't, what am I out ?? Even now, my receiver isn't in the 25% group. Am I mad ?? Nope... It will turn on when it's ready.

I began getting this today on a 622. A little slow to bring up the radar, and the radar is regional, not local, but all in all a bunch better than anything else. Nice added feature.

They must still be working on it because this morning it had Twc under news and it was number 1 with instant being 2.Instant is now number 1 and it says Twc weather instead of Twc and it's moved to number 5.Anyone else noticed this. Also my father says he is getting it on his 301.He says the reginal radar works but when he clicks on Fortcast nothing happens.

Mine's working on channel 100 but not on 214. Is that something that is coming in the future?

Yes that feature on 214 is coming soon.Once you hit select when the banner comes up on local on the 8's you will get local weather for your area. You will see the slide show that cable sees and the radar on this just shows your area not several states.

I sure hope this is correct. The regional radar for NC on Ch. 100 is mostly showing the word "Charlotte" ,obscuring any storm activity in the state. It also appears to be a still shot, no motion.

@Jeff

I see that the selection has moved to 5 as well. It is an evil ploy to make us think they are working on it!

now if only the could allow you to zoom in on the radar(like the website) and show the radar in motion (like the website)!!

I wonder when the local on the 8's will come? What some of us have now is no better than the interactive weather on channel 100 (used to be on 9500 as well) that we have gotten all along. The only advantage is that you get to watch the weather channel while viewing current conditions and extended forecast. The radar is so hard to read because it covers too broad of an area. I hope the local on the 8's radar is like the one that cable companies have where it shows just your region where you can actually see what is going on. I also hope we will be able to access local on the 8's anytime and that the local radar and watches/warnings are available anytime.

Haven't actually seen this yet on my equipment. I installed a new customer today and it showed up immediately on it. I guess once again the new customers are more important than us old guys.. However what I did see looked ok.. But not sure if it is really going to be worth all the hype.

Still waiting for it to be available on my 3 different type receivers. Anybody mention yet when the next round of receivers is going to receive this?
