Tonight's House episode had so many long audio dropouts that I could barely keep up with the plot.

I am beginning to get paranoid and wonder if this may be D*'s way of making us dissatisfied with our HR10-250's and encouraging us to go to the new piece of sh*t HR20-700 that doesn't work either.

They are also forcing many of you who are fed up with the 6.3a problems to spend money to order a disk with the old dependable 3f software when they could easily admit there are problems and DOWNLOAD the 3f software until 6.3 is fixed!

I am paying for the protection plan on my HR10-250's I am going to insist that D* either download the 3f software or send me two new receivers with 3f on them. I they don't do either then I am going to file a complaint with my State Attorney General that D* will not honor the terms of their protection plan.

I can kick my ass for not listening to my own advice to leave the phone lines disconnected until it appeared that the software was stable!

I have been with D* since 1999 but now the grass on the other side is looking greener.

My piece of sh*t HR20-700 works just fine (as does many other customers) and has since the day I got it back in September.:up Of course those few that have had problems are the ones you see in these forums. Normally end users don't start positive threads in here when it comes to equipment. (similar to your post).

The 10-250's have had bugs from the beginning and it is on it's way out. Whether your TIVO works flawlessly or not, eventually you will have no choice. Sooner may be better than later.:eureka

Old guy,
Have you went thru the process to determine that the audio drop out ARE and actual D* problem ?
Could it be a NETWORK issue, possibly a regional network problem.
I get real tired of everyone blaming D* because they are the ones they pay thier bill to, It's not ALWAYS D* fault

It could be, but not always.

As for the piece of SH*t your refering to, I've had mine for a few months now and have had NO problems, D* is addressing issues as the arrive.

IF you were so inclined, you could probably call D* and talk to them and find that they will probably upgrade you for a reasonable price.

Not to go against what MTnmike has said here, but what he says may be true, but the HR20, is def. not as relialable as the HR10.....while it is less likely you will see a positive thread, There are an abudance of bad threads, which isnt a good sign. enjoy.

Jimbos,
The audio dropouts on Fox OTA are well known, and fully documented on many other forums. I have personally experienced them and they are real.
It may not necessarily be D*'s fault since Tivo wrties the software, but it certainly is not a "local issue".

I can't stand it when people ignore reality just to defend a product. If you ordered a computer from Dell or another company wouldn't you expect a fully functional computer? Not some * on the box that reads "Mouse functionality coming soon. Essentially what D* has done is released a beta product which I think is wrong to do. I don't think you should ask your paying customers to do the job of your R&D department. Now if it was free it would be another story. But they are charging $300 for this thing. Am I alone here??

Everyone here knows when you buy it that it is NEW and there will always be issues with new items, perticularly computers, which this is.
You also should have known before you bought that the OTA tuners were not working, that has been known since the beginning.
You should be looking at the reason you bought one, rather than what it doesn't do.

The HR10-250 was not new and worked fine until the 6.3 upgrade.

I spoke to a D* CSR this morning who said they were told on Nov 21 that new software would be available "soon". She could not say what "soon" meant.

As for replacing my protection plan, D* will replace my receivers "with whatever is available at the time", BUT I get another 1 year commitment!

I don't recall being told that when I signed up for the protection plan last year.

Seems like now D* wants to extend your commitment for any reason, even if it is to correct a problem tht is their (or their contractors) fault.

Business must REALLY be bad.

And, please, no all knowing words of wisdom from the infallable "Jimbo".

I understand how you feel, these audio dropouts are annoying.

When I got my HR 20 I bought it and and They connected I was told no Phone Line Need. Later that month I bought a new sansang HD TV and connected it threw the DVI cable you know that $100.00 cable well I found out that it not compatable with all HD TV tuners. It was causing drop out picture and sometimes just sound. but only on HD channels. I went to compont RGB and after that had no more problems. It took me about 3 calls to custom service to get it figured out what was wrong. BTW I was told you do not need a phone line for Tivo DVR just an up to date account. There is no reason to have a phone line at all to a HD DirecTV tuner all update come from satellite. For PPV you can use the internet or the call center if you use the internet there is no extra fees. I have 3 HR 20 receivers now one of them was a real pain to get to work The ID number on the back was not the same as the one branded on the reciever cercuit. When we used the number off the on screen it worked perfect. DirecTV offer to send me a new receiver and noted my account if I had any more problems with That receiver. They also gave me Showtime free for 3 months for the inconvence. All I can say is call them.

I can remember reading posts on this site (and other DBS discussion sites) where people were asking/demanding that 6.3 be released for their HR 10-250s.

Now it's out in it's various versions and most posters are unhappy.

Gives new meaning to the old axiom "be careful what you wish for, you might just get it!"

Just a thought.
