Also with Dish you will get better receivers as well.

I the new satellite does not launch or fails. what will directv do?????
ANY D* HD STB can beat the pants off the E* 811, I know the 811 is what drove me away from E* back to D*. Does the 501/508/510 have NBR recording yet, which all the D* DVR's have? A bad day with the D* HR20 is better then a good day with the 921 (which used to have an automatic reboot every night to help keep it from crashing). Has E* STB's gotten better lately, yep, but how long did it take them to get there?
I expect DirecTV and Dish to be really even by the end of the year.
Most of DirecTV's new HD channels will just be SD Upconverts as many of the channels are not on the air yet.
The ones which are true HD I expect Dish to carry them. Dish has room for them and this is one of the reasons why they are converting the VOOM channels to MPEG4 on August.
I am hearing some buss (aka a RUMOR) that the rest of the MPEG2 HD channels could be MPEG4 by the end of the year, opening up more space for Dish.

I agree with you,
I think it is so funny how so many people believe the DISH receivers are better than DIRECTV's. It is all in the eye of the beholder. For me, the DIRECTV receiver is far superior to DISH, for one reason; neither DISH nor DIRECTV offer OTA locals of any kind where I live. The DIRECTV HR20 allows me to get OTA HD locals with guide data, the newest DISH HD DVR would allow me to get HD OTA locals without a guide (because I cannot subscribe to locals, which is required for this to work with DISH). That is a deal breaker for me and DISH.
Also, I may be mistaken but doesn't the newest DISH HD DVR only record one OTA channel at a time? My DIRECTV HR20 can record 2 OTA channels at once. So for me, since I cannot get locals at all via satellite, the DIRECTV receivers are far superior to DISH. I almost switched to DISH recently before I learned about these flaws with DISH receivers which would be completely unacceptable to me.
Dish hd dvr receivers can record 3 things at a time -1 ota & 2 sat channels. Does your Directv hd dvr do that?
Does your Dish Network DVR record or view 2 simultaneous OTA digital (most HD) channels?![]()
I'm kind of new to the boards and find it rather enjoyable.Hasn't this thread gotten a bit off track?

Seeing since over 70% of what I watch is OTA stuff, I am happier with being able to record two OTA channels at once and get my local OTA guide data. Therefore, IMHO, DIRECTV receivers are far superior. :up
Well I have both ota hd with my antenna and my hd locals from Dish so I get to record up to 3 network shows on say ABC/Cbs/Nbc or Fox . So I can have my cake and eat it too, so in MY case Dish is superior.
