That's the key with the pocket dish, 1 way, and the external drives will be the same. The content will not be able to be moved back.

You can't move a movie back to the DVR from PocketDish? I didn't know that. I sure hope that's not the case with external USB storage. That would put a crimp in it's utility!

And yeah, external storage or backup would be nice for the 721, as I'm now on #6. But since the SDTV it's hooked up to may be preparing it's death dive, it's probably moot. Next TV in that spot will probably be a 42" direct view LCD HDTV, and a 721 won't cut it.

The way I understood it, the external drive would be for archiving. In order to watch anything you would have to move it back to the 622.

Hmm , I guess us 721,522/625, 921/942 users are left with a Pole sticking out of our but For external storage:rolleyes::down

That has been known for quite some time. E* is trying to move to MPEG4 and trying to get subs to move there as well.

There was fleeting talk in the last Charlie Chat or maybe the Tech Chat before about Dish working with HP on their new home server to work with the 622. That's got a lot of space for discs, so 6tb is theoretically possible.

Does this mean we can use more than one external hard drive at once on the 622/722 since we can use up to 6 TB 's? Could we hookup a usb 2.0 splitter to connect up to it and use multiple hard drives with it?

What if the internal hard drive goes out in the 622/722? Can we still use the external hard drive(s) without a problem?

Why doesn't Dish Network make ALL receivers DVR compatable (at least ones with USB ports) to where you can connect an external hard drive to it, like they do with the PocketDishes?

I would agrea if there was such a big demand for it but the demand is minimal at best and limited to those of us who are veteran couch potatoes with a/v geek knowledge.

Forget for external USB storage for those models - they are USB 1.1 !

Ask Dish to remove hardcoded limit for HDD - then owning the DVR you could replace a disk to bigger one ( excludes 721 and 921 as holding OS files on the disk ).
