Detroit Tigers

I got to agree with that. Early rumors make Boston and the Cubs to be likely suitors.
In other news - Tigers finally break their losing streak last night, against TB. It's important that they sweep TB, nothing but Cleveland and the Yankme's on the upcoming schedule.

I bet if Omar played on a regular basis he would hit .290-.300.

Maybe so, but I believe his value to the Tigers lies on the bench. He's no better a glove than Guillen, and we really need to move him to first base. I wonder if Illitch would pull the 240M trigger for A-Rod? After all, given his age (32), how many yrs. would he have left at SS?

All ex-Pirate players and coaches on your teams coaching staff. Now you know how I felt in the early '90's.:D Leyland is a hell of a manager, add Gene Lamont, Lloyd McClendon, Andy Van Slyke and Rafael Belliard, no wounder you guys have a wining team. :D

I'm going to the Tigers v. Seattle game on September 9 and taking my brother who isn't doing great healthwise. I've never been to Comerica. In fact the last time I was at a Tigers game was in the 70's as I'm living in California now. It's an afternoon game and I'm in Section 138. Does anyone have any tips about Comerica? getting in, getting out? What to and what not to do? Thanks!!

Be careful about the parking lots, $20 lots right next to $10 lots. Arrive early, traffic before the game is a bear. Come early and eat at Greektown, or park in the Greektown casino garage, play some slots, get your parking ticket validated, get some lamb chops and saganaki, and enjoy the game. Watch the beer consumption at the park, you can buy 8 beers at a store for the price of one at Comerica. Have fun, it's a beautiful park, and there are plenty of places to go outside of the park after and before the game.

What was Leyland thinking last night, pulling Robertson with 2 out in the 7th? A case of overmanaging for sure. Why is Grilli still here?

Thanks, I appreciate your insight.

He felt Robertson was spent .
As for Grilld i Not sure if he'll be around much longer, or at least used much more.

Good news is, Sheff will be back tonight and Thymes should be back on Thursday and Rodney is pitching well and Zoom Zooom is ahead of shedule, throwing off the mound this week !

IF we get healthy soon enough, it may not be so hair raising in Detroit.

Zumaya may be assigned to a minor league team possibly next week. Thank God! Rodney seems to back in form also. (99MPH on the gun the other night). Great pitching by TB last night. 13K's against the best hitting team in baseball. No small feat.

I will have to see if I can get down to see one of the games Zumaya will be in, I haven't been to a game lately, sounds like a good reason to head downtown :)

Two wins in a row! The way the Tigers have been playing, this qualifies as a winning streak. At any rate, they're back in first (for the moment).

I'm still holding hope for my Tigers. They're throwing a kid from AA to the wolves tonight. Bonderman needs to wake up tommorrow.

Who are you talking about ???
Never mind, I heard ..
Jair Jurrjens, he's the latest Pheneom the Tigers have in their minors, from what I've heard he's pretty impressive, but thats down there, not in the Big's... must be to take Verlander's place, he's out with the flu, as is Polanco and Monroe.

After looking at his season stats, they are not as impressive as I would have thought, but that could be the media talking too.

Tonight, Bonderman gave up 2 in the 1st as usual and pitched pretty da*n well the rest of the night. 7.0 innings , 4 hits and 2 runs, 2 walks and 8 K's.

If we could just get him past the 1st few innings.

Tigers update :

Couple of moves

Macay McBride and Jordan Tata were optioned to Triple-A Toledo. In their place come Aquilino Lopez and Eulogio De La Cruz. However, De La Cruz will be only be up today; Yorman Bazardo will take his place on Sunday. Bazardo would've been the choice today, but he isn't ready to pitch tonight because he pitched eight innings in a start three days ago.

These are not long-term moves to shift around bullpen, but moves to get fresh arms available. As Leyland put it, "We need to get by today and tomorrow."

With Tata sent down, Wednesday's starting assignment is now open. No announcement on that yet, though Vasquez could be available to start on an extra day's rest if need be.

On the injury front, Joel Zumaya's arm felt fine today, so his rehab assignment is set. He'll pitch an inning each on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday for Toledo. If he gets through that OK, he would be ready to be activated on Tuesday for the start of the next homestand. Andrew Miller, meanwhile, will throw a side session on Sunday and would then be sent out to start Wednesday for Toledo. If he's healthy, it's feasible he could be slotted in to start for the Tigers on Tuesday, the next time Tata's old rotation spot comes up.

As for Jair Jurrjens, when someone asked Leyland what to expect from him, his response was : " I have no idea " haven't seen him since Spring Traning

Nice job tonight from Sheff with the game winning RBI in the 10th, followed by a 3-run insurance shot to right from Magglio!

Let's hope this is a sign of things to come with 13 games against the Indians and Yankees the next two weeks.

And some pretty solid pitching for the most part.

Tommorow nights game NOW turns into a very important one, a sweep (2 games) would be a help, going to need alot of hitting with a rookie on the mound , Cleveland is throwing Carmona, not a good sign ....

Good news,
Rodney looked like he has his old stuff working tonight, AND Joel Zumaya is pitching three nights in Toledo this week yet and from whet I heard tonight, he should be back in Detroit on Tuesday in time for the next homestand against Cleveland :)

I hope the comeback win in Cleveland was a "pick me up" victory for the Tigers to get back on track of being the best team in Baseball. They only have a couple of more weeks to be dilly dallying around before September kicks in and its time to turn up the jets.
