    East Timor Satellite

I thought some of you might enjoy this picture. It was on the news about the violence in East Timor. Sadly this person's car is gone and their home isn't very nice, but the dish has survived. You can tell they are near the equator.

Who had success this past weekend?

great weekend I have been eyeing a 7 foot aluminum dish that I saw on my way home. The other day I stopped and asked the guy if he would let it go. He said I could have it since there wasn't anything worth watching on C band anymore. I used an angle grinder and got the dish and post in my...

    Post installation question

I'm going to be digging a post hole for my free (take it away please) 7 foot aluminum dish and was wondering what you guys think should be the dimensions of the hole. I used an angle grinder to cut the post from its original base so I lost about 10 inches in height, is that a problem? Thanks

True South Satellite for new location

We recently moved and have an awesome southern exposure, but I'm a little confused about finding my true south satellite. One source (I think Iceberg or PSB) said use your longitude (82 degrees west/ Mount Gilead OH) which would be Nimiq 2 and another (Sadoun) said our true south is 192 degrees...

Yet another use for a primestar dish

Could you use a surplus dish to transmit FTA to a neighbor? Of course they'd have to watch what you wanted, but my neighbor and I share entertainment tastes.

    Direct TV receivers and FTA

Somebody gave me three Direct TV receivers and I was wondering what I can do with them. I don't plan to subscribe and have no interest in hacking but thought they might work as signal splitters once I get FTA into my house. Any ideas? Thanks

    Actuator used for smaller dish

Anyone try using an actuator from a BUD to motorize a smaller dish? That would be a Mcgyver undertaking. I'm thinking about it, but will need lots from my basement junk drawer and was wondering if I shouldn't just shell out the money for a motor. Thanks

    Wiring for ribbon cable

Someone gave me an analog receiver but the ribbon cable had been cut and removed from it. There is a red wire, white wire, and a group of smaller wires (green, brown, and orange) wrapped together with an unshielded wire in blue paper like casing. I also have the actuator but don't know where...

    Grounding

Diamond Jim, Dfergie's links to old posts made it pretty clear for me. The Electric Code references helped too. The grounding block is just a neat clean way to achieve a good ground. It sounds like your set up is done well enough, except that according to the electric code and the potential...

    Grounding

Yes, I'm putting my dish on the roof so it will be the highest thing around and lightning is not our friend. So we don't have to worry about the cable run, just the hardware. If you ground the equipment your way, do you really need a ground block?

    Grounding

I'm confused about grounding my equipment. I bought 50' of coax with the attached grounding wire and a grounding block. Where and how do you attach the grounding wire on the dish. None of my LNBs have a place for a grounding wire, so I'm assuming it should go somewhere on the hardware for the...

    President 900 receiver

What can anyone tell me about the President 900. I have no manuals and I would like to FTA with it. I guess it's analog and doesn't have blind scan, but should still be useful. What can you guys tell me about it? Thanks a bunch.

    Non-penetrating roof mount

Fiberglass dish, how to tell if they are bad? When you say they go bad, does that mean gradual signal loss? I'm not sure what benefit the fiberglass offers, must there be a metal component to reflect the waves or since trees can intercept waves couldn't a pure plastic or fiberglass dish w/o...

    Sadoun "A #1"

Sadoun neighbor I'm lucky, I live in Columbus and Sadoun is 15 minutes away. If anyone envisions a trip to Columbus to save on shipping but business hours are a problem, I might be able to hold stuff for an evening or Sunday customer. Just a thought for those big shipping charge savers.

    Non-penetrating roof mount

Is there any reason you can't angle iron a platform together and weigh it down enough (without coming through the roof) and straddle a gable peak on a roof if you don't want to put a post in your yard? I'm trying to get above some obstructions and think the roof will clear me. Oh, I'm thinking...
