You will never get local Hd from the cable company without a cable box. They are digital and will be encrypted. You will have to add a cable box next to your sat box to get HD anything from cable.

good luck. seems to me at least that the older sw-Xx gear causes problems with 942's. if you can i would upgrade to the DPP gear now. The bigger question is what other receivers you have.

what switch or lnb's you have? go to the system info screen. should say something like DAP quad or DAP twin or dish 500 quad. I have a feeling you have older lnbs/switch gear and that seems to be problematic for new receivers like the 942 and 625. let us know.

david dietzel, Have you tried to get the local stations from rancho? I have a customer in riverside who gets the locals from LA fine. Did you even try to get them? You might need a big antenna and an amp, but it could be possible for you. Where in ranch do you live? Jon

I have no problem with the noise. I have fans that run 24/7 to cool my 942 and my 510. I am just pointing out than most people don't like the noise.

to fix the heat problem would cause another problem=noise. Already many people complain about "how noisy" their dvr is.
