Contact the technician now if your interested in the 211!

I recall a similar emotion in late 2003 when the 811 came out. It's not fixed yet.

    811 P3.34, Scheduled for 1-10-06

I wonder if the guide problems are due to local PSIP format errors and the firmware just can't handle the error. My guide has been messed up in every release as far back as I can recall. Location is north-central Connecticut. After a reboot, the guide starts off correct but it's only a matter of...

    811 P3.34, Scheduled for 1-10-06

Very depressing. Same issues as reported in the thread by many: Way overbright picture. Yet another contrast fix that doesn't fix the bad PQ? Slow clock on OTA. Guide full of "No info"s, and unable to change channel from the guide when in that mode. Lockups requiring power button reboot...

Don't like Dish's Answers to Locals in HD - Here's an answer

I'm seriously considering getting rid of Dish completely and just watch OTA. OTA HD is stunning, and we mostly watch Law & Order, CSI, the local news, and DVD's. Hmmm, just talked myself into saving $40 a month. Cheers!

HD Enabling fee - $6 starting Feb 1st - If you dont have qualifying HD programming

Does that mean the p*ss poor software in the 811 will be put out of its misery and end-of-lifed? Living with that POS for 2+ years was a learning experience, and a bad one. I don't get any HD programming from Dish (if they had it - HD*Lite LOL!) so I'll wait and see what Dish recommends for...

    next 811 firmware - soon?

Any news on when to expect something better than firmware 3.30 for our 811's? The guide bugs are terrible with 3.30 - often see No Info, loses local information, greek characters, .... Also, Dish changed something with ATSC Dolby Digital when they released 3.30 and now the 811 occasionally...

Does the 811 DVI-D use HDCP?

That's why I have a HDTV OTA tuner card in my PC - it ignores the flags :) My front projector only has component and not DVI, so sometime down the road, the 811 will be a boat anchor. (mpeg4 will make it that anyway for the satellite side of things).

Does the 811 DVI-D use HDCP?

For ALL OTA material? I know my 811 will display digital OTA on a display that doesn't have HDCP e.g. most (all?) PC DVI LCD displays that are not intended to be used as standalone TV's. Like I said before, why bother to protect free over the air material? Is anything protected coming out of...

Does the 811 DVI-D use HDCP?

Are the digital HD OTA's unprotected? I would think so, seeing as they are free broadcast channels, but you never know. Common sense doesn't always get the right answer. If there is a new movie shown on HBOHD, is that protected? How about their own programming, say, Sopranos?

Does the 811 DVI-D use HDCP?

I'm not using the DVI output from my 811 at the moment. Does the DVI port use HDCP? Some time way back I did connect the DVI to a 17" PC LCD display and got a picture and I think that display did not support HDCP.

    OTA not the best way!!

You also overlooked another factor which works against OTA. For many, good OTA reception needs a large antenna. The Dish dish isn't too intrusive, but put up a 10 foot long ugly stick and it's a whole new level of inconvenience. I just can't see most homeowners going backwards to install ugly...

    Dish Model 811 - P2.89 Software Update

Any clues as to when the next upgrade adventure begins? 2.90 or whatever it will be. 2.89 has been a big step backwards for me and many others posting on this forum. The guide is full of No Info's and lockups, Dolby Digital was solid and now cuts out on digital OTA, picture goes to black...

    811 2.89, jumbled text?

Same here. The letters m and n just became outlines rather than solid. I suppose I'll try a reboot and see if it goes away. Could be a 2.89 issue?

Is this a new 811 problem?

Thanks, and I added my vote to the poll. The only question now is - how will I keep my blood pressure down with the 811 from now until Dish have an mpeg4 replacement available. I've had the 811 for more than 18 months and the bug list seems to go on for ever. Just did one manual reboot yesterday...

    411

August 2005? After my 811 experience, I'll let others be the 411 beta testers and wait to see how Dish handle the mpeg4 transition for existing customers.
