    We are back!

Super job, Scott. Thanks for all the improvements (and the options). I agree with Kevin's comments, and think it's a big improvement, and now looks great. No complaints here. - Tim

    We are back!

Mark, on most web browsers, just hitting Ctrl+"+" a few times can upsize your fonts to whatever is easiest for you to read. This works almost everywhere, but is especially useful for Forums where you spend a lot of time reading. Use Ctrl-"-" if you overshoot. - Tim

    We are back!

Scott, you've done a great job with the migration. I know how much work it can be. Thanks for all your efforts! That said, I'm not too fond of the current look and feel, and would appreciate some skin options, once you get the higher priority functional stuff under control. To me, it...

Looks like CES 2006 is a NON EVENT for HD

Interesting that there's no response from Don to either Ilya nor myself. Further refutation to Don's comment: > At this point in time the best source we have for quality is from E* D* and local broadcast/network OTA. < This is an incorrect statement. The best quality source remains...

Looks like CES 2006 is a NON EVENT for HD

Don, I was more than a little surprised to hear you take this position, but you explained yourself pretty well, and I can see where you're coming from and acknowledge your points, even if I disagree with your some of your conclusions. > I'll worry when they downres HDTV to that of a DVD or...

    VOOM DSR-580 DVR Spec Sheet

joemama commented: > You all ought to realize by now, nobody is gonna buck the MPAA and allow pristine digital recording capability of HD streams. < Huh? I assume you must be limiting your "nobody" to "no satellite provider", because I've been making "pristine digital recordings" of HD...

    C-Band questions

Iceberg, > But how much of the dish has to clear the roof? < Most of it. > If I set it on my deck, about the bottom 1/4 will be blocked by the roof...it sounds like I'm screwed. < Not necessarily. The bottom 25% (assuming you're talking about a linear portion of the diameter)...

    C-Band questions

Iceberg, > The only other thing on this setup is 3 wires (red, white, black) coming off the bottom of a box that say "3 wires pulse" < That's the servo-motor, that drives the polarotor, controlling the angle (polarity) of the probe. They can set it to H/V or anywhere in between, in small...

    C-Band questions

Barry wrote: > Where I work, all of the newer C-Band dishes we have are not prime focus, < That's surprising. While I knew that offset-C dishes existed, I thought they were quite rare. What size are those dishes? - Tim

    C-Band questions

P.S. Let us know what size dish you've got, if it's solid or mesh, and what the feed configuration looks like. You may have to pull off a feed cover to be able to see everything. - Tim

    C-Band questions

Iceberg, if you have an LNB, it will be a module that's detachable from the feedhorn. With an LNBF, it's all in one. The feedhorn itself is a cylindrical tube, which creates a resonant cavity for the 4 GHz microwave signals. The actual "antenna" is a small stub monopole, located at the...

VOOM Satellite Service to Dramatically Increase to Over 70 HD channels by March 2005

DarrellP commented: > I now have an email address of a VP for PQ at Dish and an email for a tech in the control room and whenever I see anything, I send them an email and they are right on the problem. < Cool! The next time I see that HDNet has their entire prime-time schedule shifted 10...

VOOM Satellite Service to Dramatically Increase to Over 70 HD channels by March 2005

ratam commented: > using varying amounts of compression to determine what they can get away with. < Yeah, unfortunately, that seems to be the problem with ALL the satellite providers, at this point in time. With the cost of transponder space being what it is, and the limited # of birds in...

Record an Anamorphic DVD from Voom?

And looking at Voomsters definition: > image distortion caused by unequal magnification along different perpendicular axes < which means simply that the magnification (scaling) on the vertical axis does not equal the magnification on the horizontal axis. NOT that the magnification varies...

Record an Anamorphic DVD from Voom?

whazoo commented: > Anamorphic lenses squeezed the picture, but in a non-linear manner. The reason for this was that you would not lose detail in the middle, only toward the edges, where the eye is not a fussy. < Whoa! This is completely and totally incorrect. Anamorphic image compression...
