Official SatelliteGuys CBS / DISH Dispute Thread

It's available on Netflix outside of the US.
If only there was some technology that allowed you to connect to the Internet virtually via a private network server in another country.
Then, you'd be able to watch it with your regular Netflix account. If only such a thing existed.
like a website called unblockvideos.com or some other free proxy perhaps.
or perhaps tor * havent use it but i heard its good.
there are paid services but unblockvideos.com is awesome and free.
i use it because the locals newspaper in my town wants to charge me to view a news article after reading four stories so i proxy in rather then pay.
they already include advertisment. so shame on them. :)

I'm most upset with Smithsonian Channel being pulled. I'm hooked on the "Air Disasters" series. Guess I'll have to torrent the series now.
they have a youtube page
you can subscribe to Smithsonian Channel
one video they have air disasters
44 minutes long.
but they have lots of other video that is free from that channel. lots of good stuff too
I am subscribed to that channel via youtube

Speaking of 'free', there is no substitute (at least for me) to having an OTA antenna and lifetime TiVo. Now days it is getting to be a 'must have' for getting through the inevitable outages during contract negotiations.

And who's idea was it to schedule the contract negotiations during football season?

A wise move on CBS part. Increases temporary demand, to maximize long term profit.

If you have access to the 77 sat on the eastern arc, there are a number of DMA's available on CONUS beams that have CBS locals. I don't know which ones have CBS O&O locals though, so a little research would be in order before "moving" to one of them. Ft Wayne is the only DMA on 61.5 with a CONUS beam I'm aware of for those with only dual EA LNB's.

DMA SAT
Bluefield, WV (HD) 77
Cincinnati, OH (HD) 77
Columbus, GA (HD) 77
Davenport, IA (HD) 77
Evansville, IN (HD) 77
Ft Wayne, IN (HD) 61.5
Jacksonville, FL (HD) 77
Lexington, KY (HD) 77
Lima, OH (HD) 77
Little Rock, AR (HD) 77
Louisville, KY(HD) 77
Paducah, KY (HD) 77
Springfield, MO (HD) 77

Fortunately, none of those have CBS O&O’s. They only have O&O’s in the top 18 markets

I'm curious who decided LMN is similar programming to Smithsonian. I would have thought AHC would have been a better substitute. But no one asked me.

Right now there is no Dish created info about the rising costs of locals and CBS not willing to extend the deal. Rather, it is just a slate saying "Tune to your local NBC station for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade".

Other than CBSSN and Smithsonian, we're not affected by the current CBS dispute here, but the dual DMA area we're in currently has to be pretty much the ideal location when local channel contract dispute blackouts do come into play. We have two stations available for each network with no ownership duplication on satellite, plus one DMA that's viewable OTA. The likelihood of losing the same network local in both DMA's at the same time is probably slim to none with the current setup.

What about POP on channel 117?
