I guess Im willing to open my ears. Many people out there contend that D* isnt delivering on what they "promised."

Ironically most of the people doing this arent D* subs, who you would think would have the biggest beef. I dont see many D* subs saying D* told me that they were going to do something and they didnt do it threads.

We can argue the HD lite stuff and believe me Im not happy with the down rezzing either, but it seems most rocks are being cast at D*'s HD plans as shown below in another thread:

As much advertising and press releasing as DirecTV devotes to telling the world of their plans, it confounds me how their disciples can consistently misquote or misunderstand them. I guess it would be pretty boring if everyone were on the same page.

Perhaps I and the many other satisfied D* subs have misunderstood D*'s plan all along.

Would you be so kind and point out the places where D* has stated that they would do one thing and havent done it.

I know a lot of people here have been on D* for practices which they consider to be "false advertising" so what I am asking harshness is for you to not just say..or give your opinion on where D* didnt deliver, what I would like you to do is refer to advertisements, please give links, to places where D* has said something and not delivered.

Its simple. You have the green light.

I want to know where Ive been lead astray by D*. Im not burying my head in the sand. Im sitting here saying prove it.

I have been with directv 12 yrs. liking 4 mo. and I didn't know they were as money hungry as they are,They started making their own receivers and don't know how,and they make it with r/f built in it,but you have to buy another remote to use it,then I can't get all the hd channels I am supposed to and they say that package ain't up to date to get all channels, but they charge me for them,So I change packages,I play a lot of music and after 5 min. my screen goes blank and to tell who is sanging a song I have to display and I get another 5 min. The remote channels numbers are at the very bottom of the remote,If you change channels with one hand you would have to be double jointed,as soon as my two yrs. is up I will see what the other side live. wmj5@aol.com

Those may be valid issues that you have with D* and I do suggest you start your own little thread about those.

Im not belittling your claims of the agility you claim is needed to run the remote. For me each remote takes time getting used to. But hey thats another topic. Perhaps the heading for your thread could be "D*'s remote, TV helper, or agility nightmare?"

Dont have to thank me for that one.

HOWEVER STICK TO THE TOPIC

The topic was this..."where did D* advertise something to you the consumer and then didnt deliver."

So for example..you say you are supposed to get cetain HD channels and D* didnt give them to you.

BINGO, now we are getting some place.

Show me where they advertise that you would get those HD channels and do not get them.

Its so freaken easy. Im putting it on a platter for all the disgruntled D* and E* people out there. Show me in print where the issues are.

Uh - they don't in any way MAKE THEIR OWN IRDS. Mostly the SAME companies that used to put their own name on them NOW MAKE THEM UNDER THE DIRECTV name.

First - regarding any false or misleading claims by DirecTV. The people challenging those claims are for the most part the really uneducated ones - the people that take the little snippets of info that are posted here (and so much of it is just plain speculation anyhow).

In order to have ANY VALID claim of false or misleading ads, the main thing that has to happen is TO SEE WHAT ACTUALLY EXISTS on the DirecTV system ON DECEMBER 31, 2007. And then make a value judgement - as to what was promised and what is there. Right now its just peeing in the wind.

What I find interesting, is that as the launch of DIRECTV 10 nears, and the 'promised' HD national channel timeframe comes closer - we are seeing on an almost weekly basis more and more announcements by both DirecTV and content providers that agreements are in fact in place. I have no doubt that a lot of those channels were working towards the end of 2007 (knowing that they would have a provider committing to carriage at that time) - I don't know why we are not seeing a similar number of contract announcements from the company supposedly WITH THE CAPACITY, why is that? Is it that there is not really the capacity now, or is it that charlie will only provide more when he is forced to by competition?

If I had DISH, I would be asking why ONLY 6 more channels this year? There will clearly be more than the 35 of so that they now have. I challenge Charlie to LIGHT THEM UP!

Boston: the best answer, and what is the case 99.9% of the time, what these people are claiming as false advertising generally falls in one of two categories or maybe both.

1. The user claiming false neither knows all the actual facts and/or mis-reads and implies something that was NEVER stated and begins to "pop off" as it were. This is MOSTLY the case.

2. The claimed false challenges one company's claim to another company's claim, this usually happens because they both are using/providing their own research or poll data to make or dispute a claim to their particular advantage. The research data almost always includes such as small sampling of respondents that they really are not too much to believe one way or they other.

Most people know this and do not take them to heart. Some people believe everything they read and get way too worked up about it because they think they are fighting the huge corporation; its just TV. Companies do just that, and start throwing lawsuits all over the damn place for no real reasons.

false claim.. Give you the sports teams in your area. as discussed on a different board, Directv states that you "get YOUR local sports teams" when due to countless different reasons, and much finger pointing at which time no one will take the blame, you do not get the sports teams that are YOUR LOCAL sports teams. Now this is not always the case, and some people get far more sports teams then they could possibly shake a stick at. But others with very reasonable complaints, get shut out.
I liked the post that said that the CS rep stated to the guy, that no He could not get the baseball team that he wanted because he didn't live in the "state of New England," he only lived in Connecticut.

so in that regard Directv gives false advertising.

I'd like to see links to the NE/Connecticut thing, I'm sure there is a legit reason for it explained in the thread that was probably ignored by the lynch mob that sprang to action.

A lot of that kind of stuff is due to an uneducated user. One example of this would be being upset because you can't get some of the UNLV games (forget which sport) in Las Vegas... this is because the Mountain West or whomever made an exclusive deal with a channel that isn't even offered in Las Vegas by any provider.

Team/RSN coverages are dictated by zip code, and any rep can check that out. If someone in Maine is upset cause they don't get Yankees games cause they feel they are close enough then that's not false advertising on D*'s part.

The only problem I see in regards to miss leading information or false advertising is with D*'s own CSR's. I can't count the number of times when I was having problems with D* the CSR stated that they would have 150 HD channels by September. Yes you may say that they are close to the September date with having more channels but they were talking 2006. Did I ever believe them, NO but how many threads were around last year with people being upset at what was told to them by the CSR's. I guess even their own employees were confused by their ad campain at the time.

CSRs are about as up to date information-wise as we are, with just an intranet to lookup information on. They hear about things when press releases are put out and added to the intranet.

IMO i think many of the people that criticize D* are the same that KNOW that D* CSRs are often trying too hard to please that caller so they get chatty and that can lead to offering the wrong information. Not an excuse, it's certainly a valid argument, I've failed reps during QAs for doing the same thing on calls (in a past life working at an outsourced center)

Either way, that wouldn't really fall under false advertisement either.

You are correct that CSR's are just as informed than the rest of us but the question that was posed was where did D* say they would do something that they didn't.

Would you be so kind and point out the places where D* has stated that they would do one thing and havent done it.

As much as you hate it a D* CSR is speaking for D* when they are on the phone with you. So this would be a valid example.

Maybe I shouldn't be talking because im a DISH Network person, but they really need to stop with all the false advertising and claiming they are the HD "Lite" leader when even cable in some areas carries more HD than they do!

C'mon, they need to stop talking about the 100 or so HD channels that they plan on carrying and put their money where their mouth is and actually do it!

Every day I get to hear this same crap from customers when compairing DISH to Directv in terms of HD. Sure Dish has over 30 HD channels, but I hear Directv is going to have over 100 by the end of the year.

Its just as bad as buying a computer, technology is improving every day. Everyone is afraid to buy today because they hear the latest and greatest is coming out in several months. So they wait several months when the latest and greatest is finally available, and something better is planned to be released a few months later.

You simply can't win!

Besides that, if Directv has 100 HD channels like they have been claiming for the past 3 years, who says DISH Network is not going to be able to carry those very same channels?

They need to put a stop to their false advertising campaign and actually do what they are saying they are going to do, then they can run all the commercials they want saying how much better their package is than everyone else!

Claude,
It's not false advertising until after the date has passed and nothing has been done.
Now IF the end of the year comes and we still have like 9 channels, then there will be problems and everyone that has been bashing D* all along will be out to continue, however if D* has added a substantual amount of HD then I expect them to suddenly not show up... or they will show up and complain that something else is not right.

This post is a perfect example of people repeating false information without checking the facts.

And yet, no one seems to read the fine print at the bottom of the page:

Blackout restrictions and other conditions apply to all sports programming.
*Actual number of games varies by market due to blackout rules and other conditions.

I haven't been able to find out what the "other conditions" are that would affect the programming, but it does seem to give D* (and any other program provider) the classic out.
