Bell signal in the southern provinces - update

I am in northern Colorado, 40.56' latitude, and have been getting Bell for years on standard dishes. When they put up the new sat at 82', my signal went way down, but was usable. When they put up the new sat at 91', I never saw it again. After a re-roofing, I had a local sat guy put up a...

Does anyone subscribe to Bell woyh 82 only?

My system was initially authorized years back when I could still see 91. I lost that a year ago, of course, and it's been workable but a bit exciting with just 82, mostly just due to a marginal signal. The 2-day guide is available, but of course that is not on my strongest transponder so some...

    Non-toll-free number for Bell?

My sister is getting calls from Bell, and I can't call back from far-southern Alberta. Does anyone have an area code 416 number into their system Thank

Iceberg, do you have a link for the equivalent for 91, post Nimiq 6?

Echostar makes the hardware, and I believe they also develop and maintain the software in the Bell units. It seems harder to do if they can't pick up 91 at all.

    Bell guide info from 82

No, the 3-day guide is available on 82. Usually after the 3am reboot, I have skeletal guide information and can't get to timers, but if I go to the guide and scroll forward in time, I can eventually watch it download. Obviously, it's not coming from my strongest transponder. Not being able to...

    91W NIMIQ 6 completely active now....footprint changed

What I find interesting is that the published 82 footprint doesn't reach as far into Montana as that for 91, but I get signal from 82 in northern Colorado and I don't get a whiff of 91. I also kinda hoped they'd have a glimmer of signal for Echostar in suburban Denver, so those guys could work...

    Larger Dish for Bell >30"

I have Bell and after some point the PVR just stopped causing me trouble. But I think I read that an eSATA drive option is coming for the 630, and at about half the price I paid for my original 9200, I have to say that the 630 won't break my bank if I do switch. A question - what's your guide...

Bell to Shaw Direct for dummies?

I am philosophical about the unique 9242 advantages; I would not get those if I had to go to a 9241, either. I do use TV2 out, but I also have a Slingbox, and I have OTA covered by another unit. I guess I'm interested in a 9241-vs-630 comparison. Yes, I get 82 passably well - not all...

    Bell guide info from 82

Hi folks, Who knows about guide info? With the loss of all transponders on 91, I am getting some guide info from 82, but not reliably and it is only three days rather than 9. This morning, I had nothing at all, and trying to load guide info from the guide failed many times until I changed to a...

Bell to Shaw Direct for dummies?

Hi folks, I am annoyed by the loss of so much stuff on Bell's 91' sat, so I have been idly looking again at Shaw Direct. I know where I would get gear and have a couple of ways I know I can get service, but I wonder if a couple of people who've either made the transition or have both systems...

    91W NIMIQ 6 completely active now....footprint changed

Northern Colorado reporting in - all of 91 is gone now. I get 82's transponders pretty well during the day, but lose them at night, so I was expecting something similar for 91. But for the moment, I have lost all trace of SD. At least I am still getting guide info and most HD - I think I will...

ordering Bell PPV outside of Canada is it worth the risk?

ANI does happen when you call a toll-free number; the party paying for the call must be able to know who the call comes from. Caller ID blocking when you pay for the call should be anonymous, because it's part of the deal you have with your phone company not to pass anything to the other end...

Is Shaw Direct ever going to get a decent PVR? I've heard lots of complaints.

Watching Canadian HD hockey channels in Seattle

The Canadian television channels are not licensed to provide programming in the U.S. They could be, if they thought they could get cable and satellite carriage. But the biggest issue would be with exactly what a lot of people want - stuff like hockey games already have the rights sold to U.S...

Need advice on getting Bell TV again

Hi folks, I had Bell TV until Bell finally worked their way through their list of CanAm customers and blacklisted my receiver. I'm at it again. I have permission to use my sister's address in Canada, but I can't get up there and visit in person for awhile. I also can't impose many favors on...

    CANAM Satellites

So what are people doing with their dead receivers? Has anyone figured out anything useful to do with their old CanAm receivers? It looks like they'll all be blacklisted, but they are still units with a good ATSC tuner (I get 26 channels!) and can be used as a manual PVR. I wasn't sure how I...

    Switching from Expressvu to DishNetwork

Bell will put the receiver's ID on a blacklist so that it can never be activated on Bell again. And because it is a Bell unit (per the serial number), it has never been possible to activate it on Dish Network. I expect you don't have good options with the 9242. I have a 9200 in the same state...

Considering HD PVR Plus system from Bell (2 TV's)

Sorry - blew it, not having a 9242 (just a dead 9200). I needn't have spoken up about that.

Considering HD PVR Plus system from Bell (2 TV's)

The TV1 output has only HDMI and Component video connectors - there is no composite or S-Video, which is what most SD sets need to connect directly. OTOH, you can connect to TV1 on the 9242 by setting up RF output on the tuner. Initial setup could be interesting if you're not using HDMI or...

    CANAM Satellites

Yes - I'd received the access card in August, right before I started hearing about the raid, etc. I know my credit card was OK. At least that got me a couple of extra months! Has anyone called Bell to inquire about their closed account? I was thinking of doing that just for the story.

    CANAM Satellites

Over for me Well, I had Bell service until yesterday afternoon. I noticed a zero-length recording, and looked at the guide. I now get a handful of barker channels plus 136 Mystere and 608 Cosmo. Sigh. One good thing - I can still record over-the-air channels, so its time to tweak the...

I feel pretty lucky right now - I got my new smartcard in August, and still have both signal on 82 and service. Not sure when the fun stops, but I'm OK for now.
