Helluva Charter deal...what would you do?

I currently have both Charter and DTV for various reasons. The PQ on DTV is definitely better than Charter. I have an HR24 and it is far superior to Charter's available DVRs. I can't speak to the Genie systems. That being said, since Charter has upgraded to all digital, they now have mostly all...

    Changing hostname...

Windows has never messed with my ...\hosts file. Occasionally another piece of software will add a line, but Windows has never screwed up my settings.

    Changing hostname...

There is a windows text file C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts which contains mappings from IP addresses to names. You can put any names you want in there associated with IP addresses. Multiple names for the same IP address are also acceptable. The form is: ip.ip.ip.ip hostname (eg...

    Battery Preference

FWIW I have been using NIMH rechargeables in my remotes for quite a while. The newer NIMH batteries that come pre-charged and hold their charge for longer periods than the older NIMH and NiCAD's did. I have 3 or 4 sets (4 batteries from the same batch) of AA and AAA that wait patiently for the...

    MOTOR POSITIONER & SERVO CONTROLLER

Yes you need to program the Arduino chip on the RBBB board. If you have the hardware built, you are past the hardest part. On the budfoot.com website you will find the source code to use with the Arduino compiler. http://budfoot.com/Servo/Satellite_Servo.pde There is also a link to the Arduino...

HD DVR causing TV to turn off?

There is a known issue with some recent Vizio TV's that causes them to shut off on their own. Some people report that it has to do with one or more of the Vizio internet apps. There are long drawn out threads on this subject on AVS Forum. Probably has nothing directly to do with the DirecTV box.

    BEST COMEDY MOVIE

Geez Louise - 61 posts before we get to this one. Savage Steve Holland provides us with a plethora of upstage sight gags and totally stupid hysterical stuff. Definitely one of the best.

    Skew question?

Other incorrect replies notwithstanding, the skew servos are basically the same as the servos used in RC airplanes. They take +5VDC for power, ground, and a pulse width modulated signal that sets the servo position as a function of the pulse width. The +5VDC should be constant and regulated. The...

    5209 Firmware Issue

Just to verify: I have seen the same thing on H264 with 5209. Went back to 5020 on the same feed and the jaggies and crawling went away. Definitely a problem with 5209.

    gbox/vbox power booster

Adding to the mix: Find an old GI 2400 or similar that had an outboard actuator drive box. In the case of the 2400, the actuator drive is controlled through a DIN connector. Shorting the appropriate pins drives the dish in the appropriate direction. The polarity sensing relay circuit the the OP...

Corotator on a modern fta Box

This has been discussed in other threads. If you feel like a DIY project, there is information at Budfoot Files about how to build a box which will convert 14/18V polarity control to servo.

    Gbox with skew (Polarotor) control

The information is still available at Budfoot Files Obviously it would be a welcome addition to the GBox, but in the meanwhile, it's an interesting project for those who are so inclined.

How often do you have to re-align your BUD

You didn't say, but if the dish has a buttonhook type feedhorn support, that may be the source of the problem. I have a 10' Channel Master that was a royal PITA until I finally installed guy wires and, once and for all, centered the feedhorn. Since then it has reliably tracked the arc with no...

A C-Band Dish on the the ground

10 foot Channel Master on the ground in Burbank with Ku accurate tracking from 55W to 139W. I've always felt damn lucky to not have to climb a roof to deal with it. When it's looking as 55W it just peers between my garage and the house next door.

    AZBox Editor - MazEdit 3.0

Just a FWIW, but MAZ 3.0 seems to run just fine on my Win 7 64 box. MAZ 2.3 did not like that box at all. Of course, YMMV, but it's definitely an improvement here. On another topic, does anyone have any idea who belongs to the evg33.ru domain where the firmware is being hosted? Not to be...

    Recover BUD from 20' pole?

Rent a Condor from your local industrial rental house. Of course that may make the cost prohibitive, but you won't die pulling it down. Alternative devices include what's usually referred to as a "manlift", which might be a cheaper rental, or a scissor lift. If you do it on a ladder at 20' up...

    GI 2000PS info needed!

IIRC, you just short either east or west to ground to make the dish move. You could probably build a little switchbox fairly easily.
