He's in a townhome. Probably can't remove a dandelion without the townhouse association approval. Trimming a tree is probably out of the question. The OP better meet with the HOA president before attempting any funky DIRECTV dish installations. Some even claim - No dishes installed on roof !!

Perhaps they don't want to boost the power to all the satellites when it's only raining in chicago or seattle one afternoon.

30-45 minutes sounds like the quickie installer job. Expect it to take at least a few hours if you want to do it right and conceal the cables as best as you can.

Your actual Internet speed in your house is no where near that. Gigabit router won't make any difference.

It's going to be pretty tricky installing a "satellite" at your vacation home.

I'm sure it's all about money for directv. It's probably a cheaper outer shell and a less expensive guts inside. It'll be a less expensive for them to manufacture with the same or higher end user cost.

My thoughts - The 2 companies are called DIRECTV and DISHNETWORK not E* & D*.

DIRECTV yearly increases have been happening every year for many years now. I pretty sure about it. At the same time every year someone starts a new thread saying - My DIRECTV monthly bill is going to go up by $x/month - I'm going to call and cancel !! :mad::mad::mad:

But yet people here an on other forums still refer to DISHNETWORK as E*. :rolleyes:

I don't have any troubles with "crowds", someone kicking my chair, cellphones, kids crying, etc.. in movie theaters. No big deal to go to a movie theater if I want to, better than paying $30 for one movie 60 days after it hits the movie theater whether it's one to 30 people in my living room...

If you're considering running a coax for composite from an RF modulator why not just run coax from the dish to the bedroom for hooking up a SD DIRECTV box.
