    C-Band help request

I'm in Maryland and 47 deg EL would be perfect.

    C-Band help request

I'll look at Intelsat23 thanks. Anole, I needed a point source at a distant high elevation and no place to mount a terresstrial antenna for this application.

    C-Band help request

I know little about FTA but I'm trying to develop and test a C-band circularly polarized antenna for another reason and need a C-Band circular point source. I'm not trying to receive any particular programming, only RF. Can any of you recommend a a fairly high-powered C-band source satellite...

Should my DVR menu say Dish Platinum or BlockBuster Movie Pass?

Just checked this out. Filtered on HD + 3 stars (does anyone watch SD anymore?). Total of 44 titles available. $10/Month for access to 44 titles? I've always been willing to pay for every feature but this better get better fast or I'll be dropping out. Ridiculous.

    External Drive

I was able to get my other 622 to recognize the drive once more and unloaded my saved programs there. Can you or anyone else recommend a particular drive that will work reliably with the 622? I appoligize but the drive bug sticky thread is so long.

    External Drive

I guess that must be it. It's USB powered. My bad. I would guess my recordings are likely lost. Thanks.

    External Drive

I purchased a 350GB iomega hard drive to try and save my programs from a dying 622. The problem is the 622 only recognizes the drive intermittently after plugging it in to the USB port. I was able to successfully format the drive and download all my recorded shows once but the next time I tried...

    622 catastrophic failure - advice?

Good question. I felt the same way but it wasn't worth $14 to me to keep arguing with the non-english speaking CSR. It was painful as it was and I just wanted to hang up. I probably should have insisted on no shipping charges though.

    622 catastrophic failure - advice?

Mine started doing the same thing. Breakups and loss of pause capability. When I talked to the CSR she told me my 622 isn't supposed to pause live TV. :haha I had to convice her it was supposed to. They're sending me another one (leased) but I have tp pay shipping. I think it has been running...

    HTPC drive issue

I have a Gateway GM5474 media center PC with Windows Vista home preimum installed. I only recently tried to watch a DVD on the machine after connecting it to my new bedroom flatscreen. To my suprise it didn't read the disk. After some experimentation I found the computer will play some movies...

How do you know how many splitters you can use

Are you using an antenna mounted pre-amp? The gain of a pre-amp can overcome the loss of several splits but you may be too close to the broadcast stations to use a pre-amp. In that case a powered distribution amplifier is needed.

    Coax Cable Length

There are so many factors that go into determining if that's a good idea it shouldn't be viewed as a rule set in stone.

    Coax Cable Length

Not sure where you got that idea but it aint so.

    Rain Fade VHF vs UHF

Neither band is significantly affected directly by rain. Other factors in a storm such as wind and lightning have a greater impact.

Using a satellite dish to make a HD parabolic antenna? Worth it?

18 inches is far too small for an effective UHF antenna. Probably less than 3 dB effective gain at 500 MHz. At 30 inches your still only around 10 dBi and below that of a good log periodic.

Digital signal strength when analog goes out

I totaly agree with you there.

Digital signal strength when analog goes out

Well I don't want to divert the thread any further but I think what you describe is a very special circumstance such as a mountain range. TV fool shows all of my UHF digital reception from DC at 45 miles as 2nd edge diffraction when I basicly have LOS.

Digital signal strength when analog goes out

Your example holds true or approximately true only by holding antenna gain fixed (an assumption) between the two cases. In that way the lower frequency antenna grows in size to a larger physical aperature and this produces an apparent path loss reduction by increasing capture area. That's the...

Digital signal strength when analog goes out

OK, but lowering transmitter power never provides better coverage. Lowering frequency only provides better coverage if we jump down far enough to switch to a much larger receive antenna, say from UHF to the VHF band. It's only the receivers larger antenna that provides better signal strength...

Can you run 2 Outputs from one antenna?

Do you have a receiver/TV/load connected to both output ports on the splitter? Sometimes a port or cable connected to a port with no load can cause problems. If that's not the case you may have a defective or just plain crappy splitter. The splitter should be a VHF/UHF model good for at least...

    PreAmp Location Question

This statement is correct as a general guideline but don't struggle with inches as it won't change anything. It would take several feet to begin to make any difference at all.

Can you run 2 Outputs from one antenna?

Are you using an antenna mounted pre-amp? If you use a splitter after a pre-amp, splitting the signal should have no impact if you are using the correct splitter.
