To the OP...what type of receiver are you using? You mentioned a Slimline...that is a Directv dish...not a Dish Network dish.

You mentioned the problem being intermittent and occurring more frequently lately. Most likely the LNB is starting to die on you. If it's only been a few weeks, any service call...regardless of home protection plan...should be covered by virtue of the first trip out.

I think the biggest reason why D* didn't like the Legacy/SWM alignment swap was due to the way the mounting holes aligned (or didn't align). Now that they've gone with the pressure clamps, I see no problem with using your method
