Actuator not working and can't remove it.

So finally got the actuator off today. Spent a couple days soaking it in vinegar and I think it may have helped some. The bolts just spun inside the actuator mount bearings so the wrenches were of no help. Had a brother in law come over with a bearing puller. That loosened one bolt off just a...

Actuator not working and can't remove it.

So wash down the studs with vinegar? Soak them in the middle of the air? I have rust removers. Yes vinegar, CLR, hydrochloric acid etc. Just not sure how to practically use them I guess.

Actuator not working and can't remove it.

This is a new V-box 7 with a heavy duty power transformer. I have another actuator that I overhauled earlier that I could test out on the V-box just to ensure that it does work I guess. I just need to be able to get the old actuator off the dish so I can overhaul it or replace it with the...

Actuator not working and can't remove it.

Yes I am getting the er 2 message when I try to move it. The count does not change. There is no visible movement of the actuator in and out. The V-box 7 is brand new. Just used for the first time today.

Actuator not working and can't remove it.

Just got my V-box connected to my cable and tried to move the actuator. It jumped a bit when I tried the E-W buttons but did not move. It looks like I need to replace or overhaul the actuator. I have an identical actuator from a second dish I have but this one won't come off the mounting...

    GeoSatFinder

inclinometer This is how I am measuring the elevation. The dish was set up a couple hours north of me so I am not sure why the bolt would not be long enough. My actuator has not moved the mount to the top of its arc yet. Could this be the problem?

    GeoSatFinder

I am at 55.71 N lat and 121.63 W long. I used GeoSatFinder at satellite AV to make a dish aiming coordinate table. The satellite directly south of me is 121 W-Echostar 9-Galaxy23. The elevation is listed at 26.5 degrees BUT I am wondering if these settings are for a 90 cm KU dish. MY 10...

Micro HD and APC from Rick's Satellite

As a newbie myself I was disappointed to find out those cool old LNBs were obselete. The good news is that the new ones are easier to use, and very inexpensive. Most models should fit. Need to decide if you want only C band or C and KU bands. I am installing a c band DMS Int. BSC-421...

    C band LNBF install

Finally the actuator is ready to be connected to the actuator control cable. I have put a splice in the old cables. I soldered the spliced wires and shrink wrapped them to hopefully exclude any moisture. Hoping it works. I have the red and black motor wires figured out but the green and...

Then there is the declination. Does anyone know what the declination is supposed to be at 55.7 North? How do you measure it? Where do I place the inclinometer?

    C band LNBF install

Attempting to set up the elevation here but I am bit confused. I read in one place where it said that the elevation should be set at your lattitude in degrees. I am at 55.7 degrees N lattitude so thats where it sets at the moment. The confusion comes in reading my customized dish aiming...

    C band LNBF install

So here is a picture of the new LNBF. I measured the distance from the back of the scalar ring to the front of the LNB on the old integral chapparal. Then I measured the same on the new LNBF. I used an inclinometer to adjust the skew to horizontal or 0 degrees to the right. You can see...

    C band LNBF install

Thanks, I got 6mm metric bolts that fit the threads today. I will measure where the old LNBF was in relation to the new and set it there for now. What about skew?

    C band LNBF install

The servo switch was made in 1989 so I assume the dish was made in the early 90's

    C band LNBF install

Is there more than one design of chapparal LNB ? My old scalar ring is casted into the waveguide and vert/horiz. switch and then attached to a C band LNB downcoverter.

    C band LNBF install

Anole, the old scalar is integrated with the waveguide and LNB so the new LNBF cannot be attached.

    C band LNBF install

Finally getting back to my 10' mesh dish install that I started in June. Winter is coming and I want some good signals coming in by then. Taking photos as we go along and will post some soon. Right now I am puzzled by the DMS BSC421 LNBF that I am installing to replace the old chapparal LNB...

    Advice on BUD

My first free dish cost me at least $200 to go get it. My second dish I paid $100 for because it was in good shape and I felt sorry for the guy because he is mentally challenged and has a difficult time of it. Since then I have been offered at least 4 other dishes.

NE BC, Canada Leads on two more dishes.

I regret that I don't have more info. I encouraged these people to post an ad on Kijiji. Most are very skeptical that anyone wants these dishes. Anyways more info is availiable from the owners.

NE BC, Canada Leads on two more dishes.

So I've got leads on a couple of other dishes. I already have two identical ones so I don't need anymore. One dish is aluminum and the other is mesh I think. They are larger dishes although I don't have the exact size but we are far north so big dishes rule here. Located in Chetwynd, BC area...

    Newbie showered with BUD's

Umm well I'll assume I don't have a good understanding of dish geometry being a newbie and all. I have taken a survey with my compass though. I took shots from east to west at different elevations. Used Dishpointer to calculate the bearings and elevations. I am sure that there will be...

    Newbie showered with BUD's

Well here is an update on the project. I now have two 10' mesh dishes. They look almost identical except one has a bigger polar mount diameter than the other. The mount on the dish from dixonville looks to be in best shape so I am going to put up that one first. The new dish came with a...

    Newbie showered with BUD's

So I ordered a BSC421 LNBF as well as a V-box 7 which Roger says is better because of the heavy duty transformer.
