You only need the power inserter if you are using a DPP44 switch. For BEV only, you would never have more than 2 satellites, so this switch is not required.

I am getting Global Toronto HD (303) , and City Toronto HD (304) without any issues. Global Montreal (59) and City Montreal (97) are also fine.

They would not need to explicitly look at them. Any basic phone system could capture caller ID and associate to the account, and generate exception report if not Canadian area code, without human intervention.

If you do PPV by phone, then call from a non-Canadian phone number, that could raise red flags on your account.

Yes, I was prepared for that. I bought a MagicJack with a Canadian phone number, and setup my Shaw account to use that #. I always use it to call them, and/or use it to plug into the receiver for PPV. It costs about $40 per year, and works well.

The 2 main satellites for Shaw (Anik F1R and Anik F2) work as far south as Central America. The new satellite (Anik G1) will not work in Florida. However, this satellite only has the HD local channels for the Canadian cities (except Toronto). Unlike Bell, Shaw Direct will work fine in Florida.

If you upgrade from Dish 500 to Dish 1000.4 Western Arc (or Dish 1000.2 Western Arc), you should not need any switches for 3 or less receivers. You don't say what receiver you have, but I am assuming you have one that supports DishPro LNBs.
