    dvr changes commercials?

I started a thread on this topic a year and a half ago: http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/284624-Local-Commercials-on-National-Channels

BB@ Home disc By Mail Ending September 19th

Perhaps a $10 savings off my Dish bill, but that $10 will end up going to Netflix or Redbox, so no real savings. I was a big fan of the Blockbuster@Home package a year ago, and it will be missed.

BB@ Home disc By Mail Ending September 19th

Blockbuster RIP This is too bad. Adding the Blockbuster service to the old Platinum package was a great deal at the time, but both services have diminished in the past six months. On the disc side, I'm only averaging about two movies per month, and half the time they're ones on the bottom...

    Is TCM now HD?

I don't think they're actually showing any HD yet. There's an ongoing thread about this over on the AVS forum. Why they aren't showing any HD remains a mystery. It appears they're taking some HD masters, downconverting them to SD, and then upconverting to HD resolution. The station does look...

Fox Movie Channel and Epix3 are now in the BB@Home movie package

I hope not either. Adding another SD movie channel is no substitute for dropping HD discs by mail.

    BB@Home survey from Dish

For me, the disc-by-mail and extra channel part of the program is where the value is. There aren't any stores near my location any more, and I haven't found much use for the download service; selection is limited and quality ranges from kinda-OK to unwatchable. If they were to pull the plug...

Where the Heck Have All the New Releases Gone?

Over the past month, it looks like some of the new titles are not available for rent. This includes Brave, ParaNorman, and The Dark Knight Rises. Has Dish/Blockbuster negotiated new terms with the studios to delay new release titles, putting them in line with Netflix and RedBox? If so, why...

DISH -VS- VOOM - A Settlement has been reached!

I recorded Dracula Has Risen From the Grave yesterday. According to IMDB, it was shot in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, which is how it looked on TCM HD, with very thin black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. It was not shown in HD, however. There was little detail to the picture, and clearly...

DISH -VS- VOOM - A Settlement has been reached!

Plenty of the movies shown on TCM have been shown in HD on other stations, or are available on Blu-ray. Just sticking with the earlier post I quoted, they'll be showing Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, all of which have been released on BD.

DISH -VS- VOOM - A Settlement has been reached!

It's just too bad that none of those classics (or any of their other movies) are actually HD on TMC HD.

    Local Commercials on National Channels?

Update: This just happened again tonight. I'd rather not specify the channel, since I don't want to take the chance of this turning into a political debate. Let's just say it's one of the national news/commentary channels. This time, I happened to be watching on delay. Usually I'll skip...

    Local Commercials on National Channels?

That's what I would have expected, but there was nothing there. That's why I had guessed it may have been stored to the hard drive and then inserted into the stream later.

    Local Commercials on National Channels?

FWIW, I don't subscribe to locals through Dish.

    Local Commercials on National Channels?

Scott, Do to have any information on how they're doing this? Again, I don't care that they're doing it, I'm just curious about how they're doing it. Scott

    Local Commercials on National Channels?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but a rudimentary search didn't pull up anything. While watching one of the national channels, there was a commercial for recall election going on in our state. I thought it would be odd for one of the parties to be spending money to hit viewers across...

    Fox Movie Channel

I don't think TCM is showing any of their movies in HD yet. They may be using new HD masters, but they're being downconverted to SD and then upconverted to HD again. At least in the US. There's an ongoing thread about it on the AVS forum.

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

Count me in with those who also lost Cinemax on the first. I'm going to kind of miss it. Pairing up a 722k and an external HD allowed me to build quite a collection over the past couple of year. I've got a bunch of the old classic Universal monster movies, and a bunch of lower-tier movies...

TCM HD looks fuzzier than its SD counterpart

It's been almost a year, and it doesn't look any actual HD content has been shown yet. Does anyone have any updated info on their plans? Scott

CONTEST - Enter to Win: GEOSATpro DVR1100c w/15GB HDD, 90cm Dish - Complete System

I vividly remember looking forward to Trick or Treat each Halloween. This was back in the days when it was held at night, on Halloween. The crisp fall air, combined with dim street lights, hordes of other kids, and just the tiniest tinge of fear were more than enough to get the adrenaline...

    XStreamHD Signals on AMC 16

I'm not with them, but I have been following them for years. One of the advertised advantages of XStreamHD was that it has the technical ability to surpass BD in terms of quality. It could have a much higher peak data rate, and file size wouldn't be limited to 50GB. That would leave Dish...

    99 cent VOD movies

I thought Alice looked pretty good at 1080i, and the .99 price is about right for less than BD quality. Were that to become the normal rental price, I'm sure I'd be using the service more often. I wouldn't expect to see that pricing become normal, though. From what I remember, the pricing...

    Today is April 30th...

At the very minimum, they should have sent out letters or emails for those that have put down money on their systems. This is not a good way for a new company to treat their customers. Delays are not necessarily a bad indication for a start-up, but the lack of communication certainly is...
