    Comparison Tool

Do you not get the header row at the top that lists the provider and package? I have only tested with Firefox, so perhaps your browser is not displaying it.

    Comparison Tool

That's why I'm trying to get a feel for the usefulness of such a tool. Being database based makes updates a bit easier, but I was also going to rely on user input to notify me of updates. I do also have a host of other features that I would like to build into this. For example, I'd also...

    Comparison Tool

That's the goal is cross provider comparison. For example you can go in right now and compare high def packages between DirecTV, Dish Network, U-verse and Time Warner.

Is anyone interested in a service comparison tool like this: Channel Comparitron Just something I've been working on in some spare time and wondering if its worth pursuing.

HD ONLY Package Pricing at Dish Network..

Does this deal include the premium channels like HBO and Showtime? I thought you couldn't get the HD versions of those channels without the SD versions because of the way they negotiated their tiers.

    $60,000 Satellite Dish on Ebay

That's weird to see stuff like that on ebay. I work for the company that built that antenna. Oh, and it's not Vertek, it's Vertex. (Incidentally, Voom also buys our 7200 controllers and digital tracking receivers) :yes

Questions About Voom, Tivo and DVR's

So what about the aspect ratios? Obviously you'd have to come out of the Voom STB with S-Video into the Tivo, but can you record HD material to the Tivo in letterbox format and then stretch it to 16x9? I.e., can it work like a non-anamorphic DVD? Is it interlaced or progressive scan?

    Washed out colors

No it's not channel specific. It's every channel. Even the Voom menu, which is why I worked so hard to rule out my TV.

    Washed out colors

The other night I was watching the election results and suddenly the colors on the screen changed. They became what I can only describe as really pale and washed out. The yellows were all dull, the blues looked almost green. I checked my other video sources and they were fine, plus my TV's...

NBC Annoucement (VOOM new news on CH 593 or 594)

Sounds to me like OTA NBC will not be receiving full coverage of the Olympics. It implies, to me at least, that cable broadcasts will be getting full coverage. ... not too sure though.

Should Voom get rid of or replace the following channels?

Moov has had some actual interesting things on lately instead of just the fractal graphics and computer generated images. They've been showing fish tanks, which I could watch for hours, very abstract footage and effects with architecture, etc. I had it on today just for visual effect while...

Does anyone at Voom monitor picture quality?

From what I understand, they monitor that stuff from their control room.

Funny thing Directv told me about Voom

Couldn't you hook the Voom receiver up to a SD TV and just hit the red button to force it down into 480i? Hi def in 480i still looks pretty darn smooth if you ask me. Try it out sometime.

Great Article on New 5th generation OTA tuners

Couldn't this be accomplished by just changing out the 8VSB module?

excuse my luck of knowledge on voom; i have a ?

I don't have mine plugged in right now either. The line is back there, I just don't feel like moving my TV again just to get to it.

    voom install curse Lifted

Jerry is pretty good. He installed my OTA Winegard antenna. Even crawled through my attic and ran the cables the way I asked him to. I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with Metro Tech Solutions. A good install company makes all the difference!

    Homebrew DVR

I don't think you really gave wrong info. Technically, as far as my research shows, there isn't anything really available that will allow you to record at 1080i, play back at 1080i, AND be compatible with Voom's guide. ATI has a video capture card that can record 1080i, but you can only play...

    Homebrew DVR

I was really just spitballing. Trying to see if anyone had played with it. I'm sure that recording a hi def show and playing it back at 480i or p would look pretty good still. At least DVD quality, but I'd still like to be able to record and play back in 1080i though. If the hardware ever...

    Homebrew DVR

Anyone thought about making their own DVR using some of the freely available software like Freevo (http://freevo.sourceforge.net/) or MythTV (http://www.mythtv.org/) and high definition video capture cards? I've been thinking about it, but not sure of what compatibility issues there would be...

    Tyler, Texas

Yep, and they're not very high up on the tower either. You pretty much have to be living right beside the tower to get it. I'm 7 miles from it in Longview and can't get it. Longview and Tyler get Metrotech Solutions out of Dallas for their installs. I have had nothing but pleasant dealings...

"Sparklies" and Volume differences VOOM never heard of them

Something to bear in mind. When you call "Voom" you may actually be speaking to an ordering service. If so, you are speaking to any number of 250+ representatives that are also taking calls for 1000+ other products. I know this, because I use to work at this place 10 years ago and I know...

    it's actually harder...

I have been "gaga" over HD ever since I saw a demonstration of it on some news show some 15 years ago. They described the Japanese having strains of it already, and showed a side by side comparison of what HD and SD looked like. I was sold at that point. :smug It's only just now that...

    Adjusting your HD picture quality

Also, bear in mind that many TVs are adjusted on a per resolution or per input basis. So adjusting with a 480p DVD may not help you much on a 1080i input. In your case it definantly sounds like convergance though. I am always tweaking mine. :p
