VIP722 Overheating - any way to fix

If you think it is the fan, you can get a similar sized fan that hooks up to the USB port for power and try bracing it at the opening to replace the internal fan. If that does it then you could most likely hot melt glue it in place or velcro it in place and be done with it.

DVR crashes 38 times in one month, 5 units replaced so far

All it takes is a momentary blip in the power to cause the problem you are seeing. Forget the surge protector go get a uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). I wouldn't run my DVRs without one.

Strong rumors TV 2 soon to be unlocked on 922

Ah, the Jenny code for the dishplayer and if I am remembering right the second one was to download guide data. Cheers

Why isn't Standard Definition (SD) quality better?

Simply put: A SD signal to a SD TV will always look better than the same SD signal fed to a HDTV. The fact that you are using the lowest form of connectivity to your SD set helps smooth out the video along with losing sharpness. A Analog Monitor has no native resolution and will look just...

    1.DNLA streaming quality / 2.Tivo vs 922

Hello Scott I've been toying with getting the 922, unfortunately it doesn't quite appear ready to replace a reliable VIP series DVR. You piqued my interest with the ABC Australian comment. How does one find that content to watch? Thanks RT

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

AS long as you aren't on the Eastern Arc you do not need the G3 card yet. Once the encryption starts to change over in the near future you will slowly lose channels until you do get the G3 card. This is the same thing that happened during the last card swap. Think about it this way. Even if...

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

You should call Dish now. When you need the new G3 card they won't be sending it to you since as far as they are concerned you already have it. Report the installer as he stole from you.

Letter from dish - MUST UPGRADE OR LOSE SERVICE

When I call I'll be telling them no Lease fees and no DVR fees since the two they are replacing are owned and no fee DVRs.

Letter from dish - MUST UPGRADE OR LOSE SERVICE

Just my luck that both of the SD DVRs I use along with the HD DVRs are being dumped. The 7100 and the 721, Whee, Whoopee! :(

Letter from dish - MUST UPGRADE OR LOSE SERVICE

If you were right about it having to do with the Tivo lawsuit it why would the replacement be one of the named in that lawsuit receivers, the 522 is named too.

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

The bigger question for any provider is: Even with MPEG4 will they be able to provide the same amount of channels in HD that are now SD? At some point in time most of the TV sets in a house will become HD through attrition.

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

I suspect that by the time they get to the mpeg2 turnoff the majority will have mpeg4 boxes and that they will work some type of swap for the mpeg2 only customers left.

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

You can use the receivers for either Eastern or Western arc, The dishes will work sort of. My best guess is that the EA dish won't see all the WA satellites. OTOH if by moving you physically moving from NJ to Calif. then the dishes don't matter as the old dishes stay behind. If you mean moving...

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

I wonder if a existing customer that gets tree'd out for 110 & 119 with other peoples trees will be able to go eastern arc earlier? It would seem to be a no brainer, OTOH.

Worst Customer Service Ever - Many Calls Attempted !!! Horrendous !!!

D* jumpers how about telling how the D* DVRs compare to the E* DVRs. BTW I have had good luck with CSRs and any tech visits such as the recent ones where they changed the LNBs for drift.

Worst Customer Service Ever - Many Calls Attempted !!! Horrendous !!!

FWIW I've noticed that the 721 is much more sensitive to LNB drift then the VIP 622 and VIP612. My 721 was also using a separator and was the box the power inserter is hooked up to. 721 ---> separator ---> Power inserter ---> DPP44. For the time being the 721 is unhooked until I run the wire...

Is Dish 1000+ too heavy for Chimney?

I think I'd be worried about the wind load. Do you really want the chimney pulled apart in a bad wind and bricks doing who knows what damage. Whether it is safe or not depends on teh condition of the chimney. Is the cement deteriorated. Before I'd do it I would want to have it inspected.

    Any new national HD rumors?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the "Watching paint Dry (WPD)" channel goes live tommorrow. I'm less hopeful about the "GG, Grass Growing" Channel going live. I have no hopes at all about the watching eggs hatch channel in the next two months I'm afraid.

    Hey Charlie! Superstations in HD?

Do what I do, I keep basic cable. I have it hooked up to the HDTV and I get the locals Plus subchannels in the clear. That means I can watch in glorious realtime not DVR'd. The TV set where I am needs to have a tuner that can QAM.

How do users like the 722?

Two things, I had my 622 hooked up via s-video for the HD channels before I got a HDTV. No problem it displayed them fine. If you want the HD channels where the 625 is I'd go for it. my 622 (knock wood i doesn't hear me) has been fine, good interface & features especially using it with a EHD...

How do users like the 722?

Something to think about. LCDs are lit by fluorescents. I've experienced fluorescent lights interfering IR with remotes in my home. I had to change to a different fixture to cure that problem or else have the lights off. Have you tried it via UHF? One other time some years back a Dishplayer...

    Local rep correct?

Exactly both the 622 and the 722 support External Hard Drives. The 722 has a larger internal drive and will support HD Dishonline whereas the 622 is limited as I understand it to SD Dishonline. Well from my read of the forums the D* HR-20/HR-21 has many more rough edges in operation and seems...
